New RS2 issues

Post by alastairg » Mon Jul 19, 2004 5:14 pm

Just to help those considering buying. I have listed the work needed to get my RS2 back to good working order, a 4 owner standard 77k car.

Oil/filter
Brake fluid
New air filter
New radiator
New DV valve( the best performance mode you can make)
Front caliper overhaul with new pads
Handbrake overhaul (still only works if cool/slight incline)
New topmounts
New fuel filter
New tyres 225/45/17 safety downsize car handles far better now
New N75 valve
4 wheel alignment
I have probably forgotten something but hope this is useful and thanks for all the help on this forum and S2 forum :D

What DV valve do you use? What does it do for performace. Does the standard unit leak or wear out?

Cannot check e bay at work. I talked to AMD and got the bosch DV used on porsche 944 turbo. I havent got the part no to hand.
They wear and fail to hold boost as well hence reduced performance. Mine was the original 9 year old one and in my case improved performance.

944 Turbo ones are known for being weak - they have a plastic diaphragm. We 944 Turbo boys replace ours with 993 Twin Turbo or Saab 9000 Turbo ones....

"Hi" by the way - I've been lurking because I'm, thinking of an RS2 as my next car.

I must admit I was surprised that AMD did not suggest anything more exotic. I will bear that in mind when this on fails !! Made a significant difference to the car in terms of boost hold and performance so I was happy given the price !
You will love an RS2, if you get a good one.
Oh do the 933 DV improve performance or simply last longer in peak condition ?

993 TT ones are exactly the same but with a metal diaphragm so they last longer. Saab ones have the metal diaphragm and a (supposedly) stronger spring. A 944T only runs 0.82bar of boost as standard (though it's quoted as 1.82 bar that is absolute, so 0.82 over atmosphere). What does the RS2 run - more? I saw 1.4bar quoted somewhere.

The Saab one is £30 - I can get you the Saab and Bosh part numbers if I do a bit of digging if you want them.

I've always fancied an RS2 although I don't need one with no dogs or kids, and the Cab is getting a bit miley (179k) and isn't very quick. I like the open top but Boxsters just don't do it for me and there isn't much else. If I start to consider a car with a roof then I figure I might as well get one with a big boot as well! My other option is a VX220 Turbo - I bet not too many people have come on here with that shortlist.

Yeah buy you could buy them from gsf, vagparts or audi for less or the same price as they are on there.

Also with the DV's most people use the 710N from the S3's and newer turbo cars. But generally i renew my N75 & DV as service items every 15-20k.

Hey guys, I'm new to this forum, been reading from the sidelines. first time post this. Posted in the yahoo RS2 list few times. What's a DV valve? pardon my ignorance, anyone has a part number?
Mine's a '95 silver, 54,000 miles. Changed almost every part, new radiator, shocks, cv joints, hall sender, solenoid valve, water pump, too many more to list , including two new turbocharger and wastegate at 50,000 miles during my two years of ownership.
The car sits in the workshop most of the time. Hardly ever had any chance to enjoy driving it.

DV Diverter valve. Check other posts for full details. In brief it controls the engines access to boost and dumps XS to turbo to maintain rpm and reduce lag.
Check posts re which one although I would be inclined to fit an OEM porsche 933 turbo for longevity. Oh and why change it ? Because the diaphragm wears and it becomes less efficient at its job. As we all do with age and use :)

First off, hello Alastair, hows things?? (my S2 came from this guy chaps, well happy with it  )
The above mentioned DV from the S3 (or the 225 TT) has a metal diaphragm. I replaced original DV on the S2 with a forge item, to cure a bouncing revs problem,,,,,,made it way worse, so on the advice of local specialist I bought above mentioned S3 DV, part number 06A 145 710 N, and everything is fine again. Saw another on fleabay the other week and bought it, so as I've got one spare for next service if needed. Space is very tight down the back of the headlight, and a few of the S2forum chaps have had theirs fail due to it rubbing against something.

White??? Never   ,,,,Gear knob is a grey RS4 alcantara item,,,,,,matches seats perfectly. No other changes to the car apart from the addition of aerowipers. What a HUGE improvement over the standard wiper setup, both in aesthetics and functionality.
Brothers search is on hold for the sec,,,,,his wifey is wanting a people carrier type car for her and the 3 kiddies,,,,so he may not be in a position to afford one,,,if thats the case, a S2 coupe will be on the cards. Pah,,,,,,bloody women
