Stiff Clutch!

Post by hiltron » Fri Jun 25, 2004 3:37 pm

All the RS2's I have driven have had stiff clutches. Mine started seeming a bit too stiff.
I removed cover beneath pedals. I saw that between pedal and slave cylinder. there is a funny joint. Not the one that joins onto the pedal. Almost like a double joint. Is it supposed to be there or is it worn out. Almost like a plastic disc in a metal tray.
Also noticed 2 stiff spring the clutch pedal pulls against when you push it in. Anybody modified thes to ease pedal action.
Any feedback great.

Had the same prob on my S2. I used a bicycle bottom bracket adjustable cup with some washers and bolted it up so that the pushrod can only move in a straight line instead of bending at the "flex" joint ( I assume it is there to soften the biting point ). Did this in April with a full set of taps / dies ready to do it properly and it still works fine. Clutch action much lighter and "springy". No need to disturb the " other" springs. Answer should make sense when you draw it. Good luck.

Just finished fixing my jointed pushrod on the clutch. Couldn't get the pushrod out as I couldn't get the grub screw holding it in the master cylinder, loose. Had to drain all fluids and remove master cylinder.
Try and catch it before the pushrod bends too much and damages the grub screw. Not enabling it to come out easily.
Replaced pushrod with one off Cabrio model. I will modify original, so no flex joint, for when replacement goes.
Noticed that 2 springs actually ASSIST clutch action.
