RS2 new owner advice
POLAR RS2 76k Started life in Jersey 4 owners now myself in Edinburgh (replaces S2 coupe) Need some advice on
1 Tyres present contisport 245s new Any experience?
2 Main radiator showing early signs of death ( been there with S2) Leaking coolant in small amounts from top plug Any advice on options other than main dealer replacement ?dialynx alloy rad ? better alternative?
3 oil pressure gauge sender failed, I think, reads >5 bar on switching on ignition and engine (oil level normal changed at purchase Mob 1 5 days ago)
4 External temp failed Previous nightmare on S2 with main dealer ordering wrong one deg F rather deg C Is it worth checking myself(assume under front bumper as S2) or has anyone the correct part number?
5 Anyone known of an independent specialist in the Edinburgh area audi/porsche they can recommend?
6 Cold start up smoke, few minutes, any concern? S2 never has. Have heard not unusual
Paintwork/interior black:blue perfect condition
Lots of questions for all. I would like to get the car sorted Thanks

245s are too wide for the 7" rims - they shouldn't be fitted. The original tyres were 245 but were special one-offs for the RS2.
I think the metal replacement ones from places like ECP are quite good - you don't have the plastic endcaps so are less likely to blow or break by someone leaning on it.
Oil pressure should go up to 5 bar on start up and drop to around 2 bar when warm at idle. What mobil 1 did you use?
I have heard good things from Autowerks in Gorgie - along from Sloans. They have experience of the RS2. There is some stuff I have heard from them that is bollocks for the S2/RS2 though but you will get the overhyped bullshit from most "audi specialists" trying to get excess money out of you.
Keep an eye on your oil usage but at 76k I wouldn't expect the turbo to be worn. Is it a standard exhaust? A catless or less restrictive exhaust can casue some oil usage through the turbo at cold.
I think www.s2central.net has the temp fix
I work in Edinburgh and live acorss the bridge so if you see someone in a silver A4 waving it is most likely me - unless I'm in my blue S2.

ECP ?
Oil pressure gauge simply goes up over 5 on switching on electrics It is broken but I was wondering on a diagnosis on wether its a fuse or sender etc ( To avoid oh you need a new one sir!)
Standard exhaust as far as i can tell at present
Thanks for the Autowerks tip

Yep, s2central.net has the fix for the ambient temp display...uses a 10p LED instead of replacing the entire display at around 60quid a shot plus labour! The most common fault for the temp display is merely the backlighting which is easy to fix.....it is unlikely to be the sensor behind the bumper. Look closely at your display to see if the digits are there. They might be very dim but if they can be seen (just) it is only the backlighting that's died.
I hate those robbing bar stewards that we so affectionately refer to as the dealers...I think 'stealers' is the more commonly accepted phrase! LOL! They prey on individuals that don't know better....go to these guys armed with a bit of knowledge then you can stand your ground and get more economical attention...BTDT. 'Stealers' try to get as much cash out of RS2 owners that they can because they claim it is so special...in truth it is so similar to the S2 Avant mechanically and electrically most people would be shocked. I have seen too many people get taken for a ride by garages that it gets my back up. Truth is, not many of them can diagnose faults because if it doesn't show up on the VAG1551 then they are stumped!
Most of the S2 guys are now running 10W60 oil in either Catrol RS (Doug), Millers competition lubes (myself) and even Agip (chap I know). The thicker oil is better suited for our engines especially when cranking up the boost pressure.
@Doug, c'mon mate, when are you going to get your new engine installed. You better get it done before GTi this year!!! We want to see the MarkH/DougB S2-head-to-head on the strip.

Alastair - the reason I asked which mobil 1 is becasue the thin stuff might be too thin - is it 0W30?? There is thicker at 15W50 - these are guesses but you probably want hte thicker stuff.
Lee - pistons are holding me back - the officail ship date for them is start of May - which means I won't have enough time to get all the inards lightened and balanced - there is a possibility of getting them early - then it is a case of gettng my machine shop to do the work asap and me taking time off to buuild the negine and put it back in - then I will be capable of close to 450bhp - It's not just Mark that is over 400bhp - there is probably another 4 or 5 very close to 400bhp.
The strip isn't really my thing - although I would do it - I need to show off the car with the rear custom ARB - It's made fae girders !! (that means it's fooking big to you southerners)

Good point Doug, I still haven't seen your car running. You promised me a demo of your 'tail happy' motor ages ago...shame about that spark plug incident at Greg's! I think SteveH, if he can get 700Nm+ on his new rods, is the man to watch out for!! Steve. are you here? You should show these guys what happens at well over 600Nm to a standard (r)s2 rod. Those things were s-shaped in 2 directions!! LOL!

Re: RS2 new owner advice
Hi Alastair
Welcome to the happy band of RS2 owners! Enjoy!
As the others have suggested Mobil 1 may be a bit thin. A number of people are using the Castrol RS oil.
Get plumes cold start up smoke on mine too - been advised it isn't unusual for the RS2 and there aren't any problems with my car.

As Dunlop no longer make the SP Sport 8000 in 245/40ZR17 that the car was fitted with originally, the advice is downsize to 225/45ZR17 as no other 245/40ZR17 fit on the 7 inch rims. I've recently had a set of Michelin Pilot Sport 2s fitted to mine.alastairg wrote:POLAR RS2 76k Started life in Jersey 4 owners now myself in Edinburgh (replaces S2 coupe) Need some advice on

alastair because of the way the oil breather system is setup oil vapour can be sucked back into the inlet and oil can build up in the bottom of the intercooler. Also you can get smoke when the seals on the bearings of the turbo start to get a bit worn. In the evo buyers guide for the RS2 they said it wasnt an uncommon thing to find and it isnt a problem on the RS2
