On my RS2 the top of the gear-knob is cracked and the lettering for 1,2,3,4,5,6 and R has faded. I would love to replace it.. but I was under the impression that the knob and gaitor are one piece (i.e you can't just twist the knob off and replace it).
Is that true?.. How difficult and potentially expensive is it to replace?

Re: Shift knob...
I suppose you could always take it somewhere to be engraved! I have heard of this before on a Ferrari 355, where the factory-engraved gearknob was scratched. All that chap did was take the car along, ask them to have a look at it, order in the stencil etc. and then a couple of days later they did it in his car for him. Bit of a long shot, but it might be possible, and in my opinion it would look MUCH better!

Re: Shift knob...
You have to replace the whole lot. Got the genuine Audi part for mine from www.vagparts.com - much cheaper than the stealership price.
