Alternator - does anyone have a spare to sell?
Gents
My alternator is on its last legs. Does anyone have a spare that they would be prepared to sell? Otherwise anyone have any ideas on where to source one other than an Audi dealer?

RE: Alternator - does anyone have a spare to sell?
I'll answer this in order to help anyone else out who suffers from a knackered alternator. It's taken me a while to get to this stage so thought it would save anyone else a load of hassle.
It seems the going rate for a 'reconditioned' alternator for the RS2 is £100-£150 depending on where you go. First problem is that many places don't have one so I looked at sourcing a new one.
In the end I found Euro Car Parts stock them (manufactured by Lucas, they are rated at 90AMP). The net price is £170 (+ delivery) once you have sent them your old alternator back (you pay something like £270 and then get a rebate when they receive your old alternator).
Like I have found with other parts I've needed to buy the price is pretty reasonable once you have shopped around, another reason this is such a great motor

I have looked at euro car parts online before and couldnt find anything for the RS2. Did you have to phone them for the part.

Yeah, I called them direct as was getting sick and tired of searching online. They offered me a 90AMP or an uprated version. I cross checked the part he was going to send my finding the part number on this site (very handy)rizzono1 wrote:I have looked at euro car parts online before and couldnt find anything for the RS2. http://www.vagcat.com/
You need to register first but then you can find any part number for your RS2.

Thanks for that I also use vagcat.com to check part No's but never thought to phone eurocarparts. In the end I usually submit and go to the Audi dealer and get robbed.

Update - the original alternator is rated at 120 AMP, not 90 as earlier suggested.

Try Stoke Audi (Dave) they seem to do a fair deal most of the time.

Did you get the alternator in the end ?
Hey Dark Horse did you get the alternator in the end? If so where from. I don't really favour the exchange route. Done that before and always had issues as they sell the parts without much of a guarantee. Mine is knackered. QST have the car at the moment and they're waiting for one from Germany. Just wondering whether your 'source'came through with the proper job.
