Radiator warning light

Post by darkhorse1210 » Mon Nov 02, 2009 6:19 pm

Over the last couple of weeks this warning light has come on twice (for a few seconds each time) when I give it some juice round a progressive bend (high speed rather than sharp cornering).

Now it can't be a problem with the main radiator as it's only covered 3k miles so any ideas why this is occasionally flicking on?

Is it simply that the coolant in the rad is tilted towards one side which triggers the sensor? I stress the fact that it only does this under hairy cornering.

Never had that in any of mine...the only thing i can think of to suggest trying is to run the engine at tick over with the expansion tank cap off for a bit whilst turning your heater blower on max heat and see if the level drops off much...you might just have an air lock in the system.
RS2 s yep ive had a few... it started with a Brilliant Black lhd then a Polar Silver and finally an RS Blau.

Al, from what you're saying there it sounds to me like it could be linked to the fact that I STILL haven't got round to sorting my heating (or lack of it) problem out.

I know have air con and a fully functioning blower but am too scared to tackle the heater problem (yet) for fear of the likely bill! However it isn't half starting to get cold out there....but then again there's always the Lupo GTI to keep me warm

Al...the car is going into my specialist next week so hopefully this will solve both problems...the restoration of cabin heat and the problem with the rad warning light, let's see

Had a little run against a Porsche Cayman last week in the drizzle....he didn't like it when a 15 year old 'estate car' went ripping past him....

Sounds like an air lock, isn't there a bleed screw on the rad ?
Good luck

:D That's ADU's party piece.

Going up towards the motorway from town there's a 50 zone, a roundabout and then it's 70 almost all the way to the motorway. Did I say 70? Forget it, it's open season. There are no pavements, no pedestrians and a very fast chicane. Even Police cars give it lots of beans on this bit.

As I went up the 50 stretch I was behind a guy on quite a big bike who had that, "I'm going to be law abiding until the roundabout," look about him. Sure enough as he came out of the roundabout he flattened himself against the tank and off we went. At 130 he throttled back, sat up in the saddle and glanced in his mirror. I swear he jumped when he saw the elderly Audi just behind.

Simple pleasures.

Uh, oh! I've hijacked another thread.

ADU has a bit of a reputation with the local motorcyclists in west Cornwall due a couple of mad moments (quote one chap "I was going up that hill at *45 and that old Audi pulled away from me, what the f*ck have you done to it" reply "nothing". Then the history lesson).
Its' very good at getting the curry home before it gets cold.
Cheers

Problem sorted....coolant level was just above minimum which when thrown round a bend caused the sensor in the reservoir to be triggered. Another problem ticked off
