Pirelli Neros 225/45/ZR17 94Y are no longer
Just a heads up to those of you looking for new tyres. Pirelli have stopped making these tyres which I rate as one of the best so far on the RS2. You can probably still find them in stock - I managed to find 2 for my front wheels recently.
The range of tyre available in 94Y fitment is shrinking which restricts our choice.

Audi RS2 - the original

I currently have the Goodyear Eagle F1 Assymetrico in 94y, it's a superb tire.
Especially coming from Toyo T1Rs
When I compare them to the Michelin PS2's I had in the same size (but a different Audi) they feel even a bit better. I sometimes had the feeling that the PS2 where lacking in cold/wet condition, and the feeling of the roadsurface wasn't as good.

225 45 17 Pirelli PZero Rosso's
Just put a set on this week.
Great tyres, in fact the tread pattern has changed a bit since the last set?

Yeah, I went for these two having read some great reviews of them. Very pleased with them (and the motor) so far. Grips like a hooker with long nails.Simoni wrote:I currently have the Goodyear Eagle F1 Assymetrico in 94y, it's a superb tire.

Still have P Zero Neros for £95 a pop.
Also the Toyo T1R tyres look good value at £66.20 each:

I've just put a set of 225-45R17 Pirelli Asimetrico.s on which I have had on other cars. They seam ok but i have one problem that you experts can maybe help me with.
All the literature says that an RS2 should be on 245-40R17 which were fitted to the standard 7j Rims.
When we tried to fit this size (Pirellis) to my car they just looked too big and the tyre walls sat at the wrong angle. We then tried a set of Bridgestones which did not as bad. It has baffolled me and the tyre company, so they have now got one tyre 245-40R17 of each make in stock now and we are going to try them on the rims.
I would be interested to here your comments.
Thanks Will
P.S Still can't get the pictures on this site

The original 245 SP8000 Dunlops were specially developed for the RS2. You must fit 225s now.

it's done "tongue in cheek" but it's serious info
Read it carefully, we'll be asking questions.

Oh, yes. And if you still can't get pictures, what is shown is that modern 225s are about 8mm narrower than the SP8000 245 as fitted to the RS2 was originally.
That is to say that a modern 245 is way too wide and is positively dangerous.
The 225's slight width disadvantage is made up for by improvements in tyre technology.

How "dangerous" are the 245s I've been running michelin pilot sport 245/40 zr17 for about 2 years with no obvious issues and was advised that they'd be okay until they need changing and then swap to the 225s? There's loads of life left in them so I don't want to swap them for the sake of it but if they're actually dangerous would you advise I change them now?

When I bought it, the Undertaker Car had 245s. When I took it to the tyre bay I use - I think I only popped in to show the lads the car! - the skipper there said, and I quote, "Hello, mate, those tyres are too wide for the rims."
He took a couple off and sure enough bits of suspension were polished. Eek!
Current owner trevithick has replaced the 225 Rossos I had fitted with another set. The only thing I ever had with them was their dislike of concrete road surfaces. The amount the car complained in multi-storey car parks was really quite painful to a sensitive soul like myself. (This is where I would put in an angelic smiley; if there was one.)

I have Toyo T1Rs on my Lupo GTI and the grip is fantastic, rain or shine. This is however a car that weighs just 950kgs!!PAULRS2 wrote:Blimey I see what you mean it's almost touching!!! So next question is what make should I get ? For normal day to day driving will I be able to tell much difference between the Goodyear F1's,P Zero Neros or the Toyo T1Rs
Cheers Paul
When I went to replace mine the advice I was getting was that the added weight of the Audi would mean tyre wear on the Toyos would be too quick so decided against them.
The Goodyear Eagle F1 Asymmetrics are also a softer compund but reviews on tyre life are better it seems:

Pirrellis will last longer but I was swayed by the comments on the Goodyear's grip...combine that with the quattro and you've got a great result.....
But like anything else it's personal preference in the end.
