Front windows and sunroof electrical problem

Post by jerseypaul » Mon May 11, 2009 4:55 pm

Hello gang, this is happeneing more and more now the weather is heating up:

If left standing in the sun quite often the electric windows and sunroof do not work. When the car cools down the problem disapears. I thought it was a loose fuse or relay and have accessed the relays and fuses under the steering column and think I have identified the relay which is active and "clicks" under normal operation. There seems to be movement on the relay when in it's holder and wondered if anyone else had suffered this symptom?

Really appreciate any help.

Make sure the relay has continuity when operated, the contacts can burn out or just stop conducting.
I'd also look at the back of the relay board for dry joints.
Mine has taken to broken wires on doors (mainly tailgate) and I've noticed the wiring is getting brittle.
Good luck.

ps the wiring diagrams are on the downloads above.

Had the same issue with my A/C. Check all the connectors under the driver side footwell. Remove the shelf & check especially those covered with foam.

Wiring

Post by jerseypaul » Mon May 11, 2009 10:25 pm

I have had to fix broken wires in the tailgate wire harness where it hinges.

The window and sunroof relay is very tall so because it is mounted vertically, it want s to pull it'self out of the holder.

Will check all wiring at replace relay as a precautionary measure.

Cheers.
