RS2 brake upgrade
ecided not to sell the RS2 after I cleaned it up for its MOT. Its too beautiful so cancelled the new GTi! Needs new discs so I was toying with the idea of a brake upgrade. Have heard that 993 gear can be used. Any advice based on fellow owners experience would be much appreciated, eg what porsche disc part numbers to use, standard calipers or upgraded etc etc. Any advice much appreciated. Thanks
RE: RS2 brake upgrade
Gareth,
Talk to Vagparts about the original parts upgrade. These are the brakes which were offered as an option when the cars were new.
The last time I asked it was cheaper than replacing like for like.

i wouldnt buy the brake calipers as new,as you can get them for around 700euro from ebay.de which are pretty much new. Also you can get brake discs as well which are 322x32.I have those brakes on mine and there are very good improvement and doesnt involve making new carriers etc.

VAG parts sell a full kit with new 993 size front calipers, the CORRECT Audi drilled 2 part front discs, drilled rear discs and all the pads, shims and other hardware - all for about £1500 with the VAT. If you buy anything else you will just end up ponsing about with special caliper carriers, swapping discs to get the right bell depth. I bought the whole kit plus new handbrake bits and goodridge hoses and it all went on in a few hours - no issues, plus great brakes now. And you know it is still OEM
RE: Re: RS2 brake upgrade
i think the 322 brake calipers use the same carriers as the smaller ones,so no problem there.
here is the shop i found on ebay.
as for OEM discs,i know VAGPARTS have them on a better price, but they are rediculesly expensive.I bought my rear discs for 110euro a pair and 1.5years now they work perfectly.
Make sure you use textar pads if you dont like squeeling.
Also im thinking of getting some aftermarket front discs at some point when needed and getting them cryogenically treated instead of paying for the OEM.Just a try to see how long they last.A guy with an RS6 in greece has done that and he has seen great results

RE: Re: RS2 brake upgrade
Hi all!
322x32 it's definetely a big improving
I agree that calipers from ebey.de for 699 euros it's a good price.
About front discs i went for the monoblock ones from the Porsche 964 3.6 Turbo.....
Porsche Part Number are: 96535104500/96535104600
They're far cheaper then the OEM RS2 and 993 322mm ones (158 euros each including VAT in Italy)
About pads:
If i remember well the size of them it's 125x75mm
Because the caliper it's made by Brembo Italian company you can have a very good deal with Brembo pads that are OEM in the Ferrari 430 (rear brakes) the set comes for a mere 145 euros and it's a fantastic compromise between Ferodo DS2500 and Textar
Be careful because pads from Ferrari are looking wrong in the shape at first view but they fit nicely on the Brembo calipers eventually.
At the end of the day i reckon that the best allover modification it's Ergal bells specifically made and Brembo 322x32 rotors.
That's probably my option when it'll comes the next discs chaniging.

RE: Re: RS2 brake upgrade
Guys, many thanks for all your input, there are obviously a few ways to go to improve on the original system. I think I will go with the original upgrade path using the 993 turbo bits as I don't have the time to source individula parts and risk wrong parts etc. I'll save that for when the parts need replacing next time. All the best
