Noise from the Aircondition

Post by steftam » Sun Jun 15, 2008 10:57 pm

Last year the compressor of the air condition was making a noise and after while was out. So a changed with a brand new but now I hear a noise that makes me worry. The noise is present when I am changing the gears to a higher one the moment that I disengage the clutch I hearing a roar like the compressor is overstressed. Maybe the coolant is to much in the system? There is someone that knows the required quantity?
Thank you in advance

hello stefanos,
are you from Greece???
anyway,if your compressor is making noises, there my be LESS oil in the system.Have someone regas the system and let them know that they should not forget to reoil the A/C as well.Maybe that will make the noise go away.Mine was making some noises and everything stopped as soon as i had it regassed properly

This may have nothing to do with anything, but...

When I first had the car I had a terrible grinding noise in corners. Eventually it occurred to me that the noises disappeared if the heater fan was turned off.

I reckon it's the bearing in the heater fan sufficiently worn to allow something, when centrifugal forces insist, to grind against something it wouldn't normally touch. Fan on in bends, dreadful noise. Fan off (air con or just heater) no noise.

Approaching my favourite bends I turn the fan off. Brilliant.

Agreed, but it works.

One one the lads I grew up with had a beaten up old car where he had to lean over and hold the passenger door closed on bends.

It's all a matter of degree. The door had to be fixed. The heater fan isn't as important, but I will fix it eventually.

Now just so I understand. You are hearing a roar on changing gear & think its the A/C unit
I think you will find that the noise is dumped boost & may indicate a worn DV or nothing wrong at all.

Hi all!

I changed last week my aircon compressor that after 290000km and 13years decided that was enough to turn around.
I fixed a MY2000 A6 TDI.
By taking off the back part of the RS2 compressor with the connections and mounted it on the A6 one and a spacer made to size by my mechanic the part looks and works like OEM.
Keep this in mind because compressors from others big Audis are easy to find and cheaper from the scrapers.....
