Not sure about contacts, no info.
Go with the Assymetrics.
Some of the lads on the RS4 forum are saying night and day between the new Assymetrics and PS2's which themselves are regarded as a very good tyre.
High praise indeed.
If a large amount of forum members are praising the tyre, there has to be something in it.

Hi, many thanks. Am now tempted with the Goodyears. I'd heard that they have a habit of going out of shape when quite worn but this must relate to an older tyre than the latest Asymetrics, even if indeed this is true. Has anyone come across issues with their worn Goodyears going out of shape?!

The new Goodyear F1s are 94Y XLs which suggests strength. Any comments or experiences appreciated.

Meanwhile, back at Pirelli...

The difference between the Rossos and Neros fascinates me. Pirelli's own description of the merits of the two tyres on their website might as well be written in Chinese for all the good it does me. Rosso: "Optimum trade-off between high performance and comfort... The ideal choice for car manufacturers, tuners and conversions." Neros: "Ideal choice for tuners and racing enthusiasts... Specifically built for "soft" and "hard" tuning with extra load capability." Give me a break.

In the tyre bay on Saturday for a new spare - the OE Dunlop SP8000 wasn't good enough for Alastair's brilliant experiment (see OEM spare tyres I WANT THEM) so it probably wasn't good enough for me either - and I asked the guv'nor about the difference.

"The Nero is softer and gives more grip, the Rosso is a bit harder and lasts longer."

Why don't Pirelli say that? Eejits.

(I've kept the old SP8000 if anyone ever wants to see one for a comparison.)

Good point DickyC. I thought the same when I visited their website - I didnt seem to fit either description so I walked! (which incidentally I seem to have been doing a lot lately while my RS undergoes a bit of an overhaul!).

Thanks Simon. Don't forget to let us know how you find the new tyres.

I tried Goodyear f1's, they wore out on the shoulders early, also more loud than the Pilot Sport 2's. ( I pump up the pressure to 41 to help). Just fitted my third pair of Michelins.

Thank you for your help and comments. I've gone for the new Goodyear F1 Assymetrics; allegedly the tyre tread spreads the weight of the load across the face of the tyre, taking it away from the side walls. They are also 94Y and XL rated which again suggests strength. There have been some positive comments on other forums on these tyres too.

I guess the proof will be in the ownership and I hope to pick up my car from the garage complete with new suspension bits, new calipers/discs and an aircon overhaul at the end of this week.

Will keep you posted!

GOODYEAR EAGLE F1 ASYMMETRIC - 225/45R17 94Y XL. What a tyre!
1.Rim protection on outer surface is marked. Giving the tyre a wider profile on the wheel. Looks good.
2 Ride quality excellent & quiet
3 Turn in sharp with feel
Only just fitted so more to come on handling & wet capabilities. This has all the makings of taking over from P zero nero as the RS2 first choice tyre.

Oh & £83 per tyre(inc vat & del) from Camskill

Gone a bit different here. Fitted Kuhmo KU31s today, replacing the old Dunlop SP8000s. Again 94Y XL. Can't comment on grip yet as they have done 50 miles but can comment on good rim protection, ride is a revelation compared to old on the Edinburgh roads , quiet and look good on the refurbished rims. Not expensive either at around £60 a tyre. I'll let you know how they perform and last.

Now driven 300miles in dry & today rain. This tyre is stunning in all aspects but the precise turn in is amazing. I have no hestiation in saying this would be my number 1 recommendation.
