RS2 Security Question
RS2 Security Question
My insurance have asked for details of any factory security system fitted to my vehicle (95 RS2, std UK spec). Can anybody tell me if there is such a system over and above the central locking?? My car has a tracker fitted, but at the moment is disabled.....
RE: RS2 Security Question
There is a Cat 2 audi immobiliser unless you have an after market alarm (most do). Do you have a remote ?

RE: RS2 Security Question
Thanks!
No remote, buttons in the keys just operate a torch, and as far as I know, no aftermarket alarm, just the tracker. Audi UK could not give me details as the car was over 10 years old, and said it probably didn't have any security system being 13 years old..... I'll need a model number or engineer's report for the insurance, any idea who to go to for more info?

RE: RS2 Security Question
I am always tempted to suggest you use another insurance firm. However you could try again with the line its a factory fitted standard specification (no optional extra) for this model & year. It is cat 2 (no auto alarm). It never came with documentation however you can photocopy the handbook pages referencing it !
Or ring a local audi dealer/specialist and ask if Vagcom can read the immobilser model number

RE: RS2 Security Question
They are not accepting this as proof... Audi UK, say it is not Cat 2, which is in line with what thatcham say. Audi Bristol are typically useless. Audi UK also say that it is just a sensor alarm - no immob. We know this not to be true.
The thatcham spec says 'passively armed' and I think the RS2 system is armed on the key... So, unless by some miracle the model number turns up and it was still fitted on later Coupe or Convertibles AND has since been tested by Thatcham, I am either fitting an aftermarket system or changing insurers..... Direct Line have said they will not charge a cancellation fee as I was mis-sold the policy, which is nice.
Insurance recommendations anyone?
