Intermittent AC

Post by alastairg » Mon Jul 30, 2007 11:49 am

Usually works well. Condensor dryer and hoses all replaced with gas and pressure check passed this year.

Now on three occasions it has failed to start after sitting for several hours in work carpark in warm weather.

On each occasion it has re started when cooler the same evening or next morning.

Visiualk check reveals no obvious issues

Any ideas ??

I had a similar thing with mine. An intermittent air con light , and no air con during last winter. It seems to have sorted itself out. I was a sensor can get a bit tempormental if its too cold sometimes.

Hope you've been lucky too :?:

Solved and worth checking similar if you have intermittent faults. I replaced the AC clutch relay under the dash. No solution. So I checked the wires to the switches. Moving them switched the AC on and off. Solution but no. Moved again and realised it was a connector behind it (big red one covered in foam sleeve). On inspecting it I found it was only part clipped on one side. I guess its been like this for a few years and I moved it whilst sorting the ICE headunit to fit an aux cable for mp3 player. I guess as the ambient temps rose the plastic expanded causing the precarious connection to fail.
Anyway if you have an intermittent fault with a possible electrical cause check the wiring connectors !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

afhgus: As far as i'm aware the air con will only opperate above a certain temperature. Think it's 4*C or there abouts.

Air Con

My experience concurs with "Bowlerwell" certainly for my RHD UK car
ie Below 4c mine doesn't seem to come on at first. This is irritating when on a journey as the cabin soon warms up. Then sometimes it miraculously comes on.Weird!
Completely fine in Spring/Summer/Autumn> I just leave it in the on position all year round.
