Hi, I had a look over an RS2 today. The car was very clean and had obviously been well looked after. After taking the car for a run and lifting the bonnet I could hear a tapping sound coming from the top of the engine; sounded very much like tappets to me.
As this is the first RS2 I have looked at I dont have any point of reference to judge whether it was noisy or not. Could this be a potential problem and are the tappets usually audible with the bonnet open?
The cambelt has been replaced fairly recently and it uses a good oil.
I`m very tempted by this car and would appreciate it if anybody could give me some insight on this.
Thanks
Tappets
Re: Tappets
If its got a few tired tappets you would easy here them bonnet open or closed. They are not expensive to change as they are the same as all VW/Audi hydraulic tappets.MonkeyNut5 wrote:Hi, I had a look over an RS2 today. Use the tired tappers as a low bid reason!
Takes a couple of hours labour.
Hope this helps,

it could also be a normal audi RS2 engine sound! These 5cyl engines have very noise injectors as well as a fuel filter-sensor plug thing just behind the motorblock which maks a repeating sound.
Also it could be that the RS2 you saw had low oil level,or wrong(too thin) oil to produce this sound.Check the oil pressure to see that on idle and while hot the car has 1.8-2bar pressure. Then you could eliminate the oil factor, and could safely say that these are tappets!
