High mileage RS2

Hi there,
Hope you're all well?

I have my eye on an RS2, but its 180k miles. Should I have any reservations with looking at this car? Obviously, it should be full audi history...

Do they need rebuilding at 200k?

As long as the car has been looked after properly by a specialist and serviced frequently with plenty of service history and bills it should be ok. Make sure the cambelt has been changed on time, around every 50k or 4-5 years too.

My S2 has 236k on the clock and still drives perfect, nothing to worry about in my opinion.

James, dont let the miles put you off. Take it its the 96/N plater silver one on the bay of lies ? Ask him if he minds an AA/RAC or Specialist inspection prior to the end of auction, his reply should tell you something about the car. Good luck........i know some others who are after it

Not saying that at all Si, to me tough it just seems only logical to check out an expensive potential purchase thats in an auction on e bay to save any expensive mistakes. Only 2 hours left on the auction so im off round my mates place to see if he can`grab`it. Good luck to anyone whos bidding on it

My RS2 was only 15 thousand miles short of 200K and it was in perfect health. They key as other have said is to make sure it's got a thick history with some evidence of recent expenditure on cambelt, plugs and a suspension refresh as well. When I got my car the bushes/topmounts were shot and changing them made a massive difference to the way it drove. Obviously you'll want to see that the brakes have been refreshed recently as well because they cost a fortune to replace. I'd also say watch out for whines/noises in first gear particularly.

Don't be scared of the right high mileage car but be prepared for some major expenditure on whatever car you get. These are old cars now and you have to expect to be replacing parts as you go along. Thankfully the engines and turbos seem to have a very long lifespan given the right treatment.

I also think you should consider LHD, it's no problem in the UK and you could get a better specified car, in better condition for less money. Just because there is a wider range of cars available.
