Thinking of going for a new set of OEM dampers/springs as my recent replacement of the bushes has improved the handling but it still feels floaty/unstable at speed in high winds that wouldn't have bothered my previous cars.
Therefore I'm figuring the fault lies with the dampers/springs which are the original items with some 120K miles on them!
Does anyone have any idea how much a set will cost including fitting?
New dampers and springs advice and price.
RE: New dampers and springs advice and price.
I replaced the dampers on mine with OEM replacements at the same time as all the bushes. Certainly made everything a bit tighter and I have never experienced the float/instability you describe. I got mine from VAG Parts and they are very reasonably priced as far as I recall. Fitting is a fairly straight forward job so should not be too expensive. I doubt you need new springs as well.
It might be worth talking to the guys at QRSport they know their stuff when talking about RS2 suspension:

Mate of mine is fitting Bilsteins. Fronts fit straight on, rears if fitted straight on jack car up ie wacky races look. So some adjustments are needed.
He has an ur quattro which used to have Konis, car was sloppy, swapped to Billis, never looked back. Hence the move to Billis on his rs2.
Lads on here might no more about modifacation on rears.
If youre sticking with oe then none of this matters.
Just my 2p's worth.
Got his Billis from motorsport world .co.uk
Cheers

Tis me with the billies above...
the oem are boge not bilstiens as alot of reports say. I cannot beleive you have done all those miles with originals!! it must be like a blomonge!
go for just changing to bilstien shocks, springs last for ever! well 250,000 on my UR so far...
the mod for the bilstien rear is easy, very easy with a lathe, or take to machine shop. all you have to do is machine a new groove 13mm lower down for the circlip, spring platform then sits on circlip in correct position.
rear shocks are so i'm told the ones for an S4 avant,
Part numbers are: front F4-PE3-3086-H0
Rear F4-BE3-6212-H1
not my picture but you can see the new groove..
The difference will be massive!!!
