OEM Single CD Gamma

Post by LHD » Fri Jun 30, 2006 4:01 pm

A repost of what I've put over on the S2 forum but if any of you can help me then it would be fantastic

I'm seriously confused, my car, an RS2 has an OEM single CD player badged 'Gamma'. It's pretty useless so I want to replace it with a Sony MP3 Cd player I already have with standard ISO connectors.
So I went out and bought a harness adapter for an Audi 80 from Halfrauds without removing the head unit first (shoot me now). On removing the 'Gamma' (a panasonic manufactured unit) I found the normal brown and black plugs. As well as this was a spade terminal for earth and a red plug (larger than the brown or black, lots of wires) with connections to the on board computer and some other stuff I don't understand.
Has anyone else seen this harness or have any idea where I could get a harness adapter for it?

I tried plugging in the Sony and not bothering with the red plug but it remained powered on all the time and only delivered sound to the front speakers. On examining the brown speaker plug on the car's harness it became obvious that this plug only has connections for the 2 front speakers. The rear's must be connected via the red plug.

Needless to say this is driving me insane.

Hi
I got one of those to put on my rs2 (what to keed all original as possible) unfortunently it as a faulty CD.
I was looking for original harness cable from this CD gamma. info etc...
As far I know, the audio outputs are not amplified (this unit doesnt have amp) so I supose your speakers have amp somewhere.
the only thing I could help you is maybe a stikker pic that was in rear of the unit with simple schematic (realy simple - lack of info)

later at home will try to find that pic and sent it to you.

does your gama still have a working cd?

thanks RS2.pt, it's the speakers that are amplified and I finally got a lead to convert to standard ISO- you also need another lead to do the front speakers and ISO power connectors. I'll post the lead part number I have but it was supplied in Nederlands so may not be much use to others.

Greetings to you in Lisboa, my mother lives in Algarve so I hope one day to drive down there via Lisboa, maybe I see you there!

only just noticed this,

Thanks for the photo, my Gamma was missing the sticker, I've printed yours out and stuck it on there.

I plan to keep the GAMMA in case I come to sell the car but in the meantime I'm putting a SONY MP3 and IPOd in it.
