Do both sides flow exhaust gases or just one still?

2 sides - it common to what ABT, MTM or Supersprint do with exhaust for that model

Looks much better that way. Good that they are functional too. What were Audi thinking?! :audibash:

Boys, boys.....

You need to go and drive one and accept it for what it is. A very comfortable, sporty crossover with a bit of poke. Beauty is in the eye of the beholder.

I wanted slightly elevated height, (but not as high or as big as the Q7), a little performance, something different but massively understated with good fuel consumption. The family has all but gone now (max 3 of us, normally 1 or 2) and so too have B5, B6, B7. C5, C, C7 S and RS cars and the 1200NM V10 Touareg. I simply don't need the size or daft performance of anything quicker. Live and let live and all that....

That's not to mention that it has the highest residual value of all Audi's (apart from the R8).....and desperately cheap to run....

I rest my case me lord.

Except I've driven one and still don't see the point or find it of any use / fun what so ever. I don't see how it is worthy of an RS badge... residuals don't make a car a performance car.

Smudge. driving one for 30mins or even a few days misses the point. You simply cannot cover all bases during that time. Having had it for 5 months now, I love it and its no 750bhp RS6 but in fairness it is half the length, half the power, half the cost, same spec level and what other SUV's get near it? Not just get near it, what other SUV's are this 'performance car heaven' you infer of?

You don't mention what you drive.

Please elaborate.

I fear you are missing my point. 'SUV' (I hate that term btw, English was after all created on our fair isle, lets stick to our version?)in my mind does not equate to an RS or a performance car. Yes, you can get 4x4 / offroaders that will go funking quick, look at the RRS SVR - but I don't see how any of these can be classed as a performance car. So all the 'halves' you quote are, fundamentally irrelevant.

I had a new Q3 as a courtesy car from Audi a while ago, albeit not an RS. Overall it's a nice car, but I don't really see the point, as it's not got much room inside, and would be useless off road, so why not just have an A4 avant?! I think it also looks rather ugly, and is a very 'feminine' car, hence why my wife loved it!

And if anyone were to have one, certainly can't see the point in an RS version. This is a car for yummy mummy's to flit between Waitrose & Costa in, certainly not a serious performance car! Imo!

I think there are a few things we can agree on?

1) we will not agree on this
2) 'performance' is relative and massively subjective

I would add however that I am not aware where the performance car badge came from? It is marketed as a performance SUV or crossover....? Are you expecting too much from it?

Interesting discussion, and lots of people with strong opinions of a car they have in general any first hand experience.

Define "performance car"?

As a comparison, I don't think anyone reading this forum disagrees that a B8 RS4 is a performance car? Yet, there are lots of people who would say that a performance car would need to be fast, handle well, have all parts built for fast driving, and have 2 doors... Hmm, by the sound of it, the RS4 doesn't fit the bill then?

Ok, my point about RS Q3 then... My wife wanted one, and despite my desperate attempts to twist her mind around by offering M2 and many "respectable" performance cars (that also look good) as alternatives, there was no way around it. So I bought one for her, thinking that I simply hate it...

Fast forward a couple of weeks, here is my short and probably biased report: In almost any normal use situation faster than RS4 (or at least easier to exploit) the power, faster on race track slalom course than R8, fantastic breaks, engine sound and everything that counts as a critical part for performance purposes and fast driving... And this for nearly half the price of RS4! Add the fact that in similar commute traffic where RS4 drinks (gulps) fuel at the rate of closer to 20 l/100 km the litter fire cracker RS Q3 goes at low teens... Makes you think that bloody good value for money... I'm not saying it's better than RS4, I'd still drive RS4 any day over it, but an amazing little car that is seeking it's match not only in it's own category but when comparing with most of the metal boxes on the road with 4 wheels in them...

I rest my case!

My main point is I don't believe it deserves the 'RS' badge. Possibly 'S', but definitely not an RS. Within this, why isn't there an SQ3? There's an 'S' in all other version of an RS, bar the Q3.....
