RS4s and slick tyres
RS4s and slick tyres
Hi all
Have any of you B7 owners ever run your RS4 around the track on slicks?
Something I am contemplating as and when (if!) the B8 turns up !

I think Sonny is the only active member who has run track rubber. As a passenger the B7 felt bang on.

RS4s and slick tyres
Only ran R888 in 255/30/18 format. Car was spot on. I wondered what full on slicks would feel like, but most track day organisers require a cage I be used with slicks. Expect the chassis to twist as well with slicks so you might get a few squeaks afterwards once used.
Money can't buy you love, but it can buy you a well sorted racecar
Re: RS4s and slick tyres
I have the Yokohama equivalents on the exige as my 'dry' tyre so know they are good but I was thinking full slicks for the RS as I would have room in the boot for some normal tyres toosonny wrote:Only ran R888 in 255/30/18 format. RMA don't seem to require a cage

Re: RS4s and slick tyres
Ps I did wonder if the extra grip would put too much stress on the car. Maybe the 888s are the way forward on a spare set of wheels (maybe 18/19s) which could double up as winter wheels with proper winter tyres in the wintersonny wrote:Only ran R888 in 255/30/18 format. Whilst you guys seem switched on and without starting any unnecessary new threads - have you seen if there is anybody on here that ordered the carbon ceramic brakes on their RS5/6 ?

Re: RS4s and slick tyres
Only if you have the bench stripped out as in some cars it helps make the car more rigid. Mine has been fine with the R888s.535dboy wrote:Ps I did wonder if the extra grip would put too much stress on the car. Ok that's good then, I think its mandatory for MSV days.535dboy wrote:I have the Yokohama equivalents on the exige as my 'dry' tyre so know they are good but I was thinking full slicks for the RS as I would have room in the boot for some normal tyres toosonny wrote:Only ran R888 in 255/30/18 format. Re: RS4s and slick tyres
I would strongly advise not to run slicks on standard suspension.
The jump between road and track tyre is a lot however it's trivial compared to the jump from track tyre to full slick.
You at least want to make sure all track and tie rods are up to it as they will take a beating.
Fwiw, I've run many cars on slicks and track rubber and tbh for a track day I wouldnt want to use slicks. They don't like sliding and are very unforgiving near the limit. Slightest bit of moisture and whoosh - no grip.
For racing or competition fine but most people used to normal tyres can often be initially slower on full slicks.
