B7 Track Rim Tyre Combination

I've hopefully bought a set of spare OEM 19" rims for track days.

Notwithstanding the comments about beefing up the suspension to cope with the increased loads generating by using slicks or semi-slicks, what tyres should I go for?

Pirelli Corsa's don't appear to come in 255/35/19.

I guess when Frank Stippler set the 7.58 time around the Nurburg Pirelli made the tyres specially?

I'd like semi-slicks.

But I'm also wondering if I should shoot for a different rim/tyre combo?

Advice appreciated.

They did (255/35/19). These Corsa's were partly reviewed by Audi Driver mag (circa Sept/Oct 2005) just before the launch of the RS4. Chris Harris (then Autocar) used them on a trip to the Ring with his Avant. Brilliant tyre, but you can't get hold of it - been on back order for ever...

They were even on the fastest car (front tyres) ever round the Top Gear track - the Gumpert Apollo. Spoke to their UK rep just before the car went on the programme - they had just sourced the last 7 Corsa tyres in the world!

Like you, I have a second set of wheels & thought it would be quite easy to get hold of a set of Corsa's or another semi-slick tyre. But after 18 months I probably came to the end of the road looking for a set. Even tried Overseas, part worn ones etc etc.

The problem is the size (19's) and also the high loading.

:D My wheels however Do now have a set of brand new tyres on them & will be trying them out for the first time next month.

If you want to know further details then just PM me.

Toyo 888's have a good rep. Atlas can also get hold of them for a good price.

Rob,

Toyo don't make a 19" R888 in our size....closest is 265/30...else its 295/30 or 305/30.

Mac4RS has confirmed that the 265/30's meet all the relevant criteria tho...

Not bothered about the speedo when at the track as long as I stay on it!

Interesting...so you have personally tried the 265/30/19 Toyo's?

The only problem I see with the R888 'Proxes', is that they may be too fast for some people

By the way, didn't the Megane R26.R do a record breaking 8min 17sec for front-wheel drive round the Ring recently wearing Toyo R888's?

That same Megane has just been voted 3rd overall in Evo's Car of the Year. Narrowly beaten by the GT2 and in top spot the Nissan GTR.

It sounds a great car for the money.

Just fitted the 265/30/19 to my RS6 today.

So far they are outstanding with H&Rs and Hotchkis ARBs.
Like a 500bhp GoKart.
