Raceday with my 19 YEAR OLD NEPHEWS (HELP!!!)

HI Guys, me and my brother (34,42 yrs) are taking his son and my other nephew to a race track. I dont know where to take them. I need somewhere wide and safe as the little shits are gonna want to take the cars round.
Im taking my B7 RS4 V8 and my brother his Lambo Gallardo Superleggera!

I was thinking maybe Bedford auto drome.

Any ideas??

erm, Im starting to have 2nd thoughts.....maybe i should say something like....erm ....guys....erm these rs4's aint what everyone makes out....OR.....LADS.....I REALLY CANT BE BOTHERED TO DRIVE A LAMBO SUPERLEGGERA OR AN RS4 ROUND THE SAME TRACK FOR HOURS.....HOW VERY BORING....

its not gonna work....Help.

Just pay for a circuit day for them, not even be half the excess of either cars, thats ASSuMEing your gonna insure the youngsters!

Bedford is quite a nice track and well supervised, there is a new chicane before the hairpin though. The back straight is still just as long with hard braking required into the chicane at the end (I've seen an AMG Merc suffer brake fade at this point and overtake me by taking the scenic route).

I would suggest you let the little sh*ts (as you call them) take one of their own cars and once they have proved themselves then allow them a couple of laps in one of the other cars. (Or hire a car for the day)

Perhaps ask Doug or someone else to install a switch which you can activate by foot which will act like a rev limiter so that if they got too lairy you can just hit the switch. I know the rally cars at Silverstone used to have this fitted to them.

Either that or a piece of wire wrapped around their goolies which you can tug if they don't play the game.

Yup 19 year olds are little shits

Personally, talking as a 21 year old with an s4. Let them take their own cars round for the first couple of hours of the day. If they bin it, its game over. Make sure they are quite capable and have gotten used to driving fast round the track.

The problem is with youngsters is they have something to prove and show off. I do myself sometimes.
Certainly don't let them loose on their own round the track. Important to keep them fast but smooth (it's also faster round the track) but build up speed slowly.

You are incredibly brave trusting them with your cars in the first place. The only persons i trust with my car is mrc and my fellow s4 comrad.

Try getting race insurance. Probably be around £150-£200 for the day. Last thing you want to do is wreck the vehicle and getting the little shits to push it into a ditch on the main road to claim off of regular insurance.

If you can, avoid a race track if you value your car and your life.
Go to run what ya brung at santapod.

Can't go too wrong on a straight run. Just make sure they don't slip the clutch if they are going to do a proper launch. Can't go wrong on lambo if its crappy paddle gearbox.

i would let them bring their cars to prove they came drive, But I DONT THINK their crappy Black Vauxhall Corsa's (with wings missing and wheels buckled) will even get to the track.
1 nephew will be sensible and listen and will take car round sensibly fast and smooth. The other nephew(my brothers son/Lambo) will want to prove a point and try to beat all and might screw things up. SO its daddies 150K lambo for him...hahaha.

Thing is guys, I trust them on straights and dont expect them to drive slow (the whole point of taking them to a track is to drive fast) but Im worried about them braking on a fast bend and ............well U know... losing the arse.
The other thing.....in the back of my mind Im worried THEY will be OK and I might get a slower lap time than them And I might be the one to STACK!!! Would never hear the end of it ....haha

Most trackdays ban any form of timing!

It's quite clear that you can't trust them, so perhaps the answer has to be "once you've matured and got a few good miles under your belt on the road without accidents, then I'll consider it, until then...you'll need to get your own car roadworthy for use on a track". By all means take them as passengers - but until they can prove to your satisfaction that they are responsible shits then don't let 'em drive.

Im OK with them in the RS4 as I've stiff lower suspension from MTM and car sits nice. Thing is with the V8 you don't realize how quick you could be coming into a bend. Unlike a turbo....you can feel the force so you tend not to rip as much? As for the Lambo Supperleggera......we'll Im just about gonna drive it ....not them

That's the other thing... Traction control is really going to be working those brakes hard. May even get brake fade if you really are pegging it.

Me personally I would have it off and have some fun. But we are talking little shits in an rs4.

If you don't want them to drive the lambo. You could always lend it to me for the day and i'll lend you my s4 as a deposit.
