I am planing to book a track day early this year, because i have .......never.....been on a track before a novice day would be the best for me. I certainly need some lessons from an instructor.

Wish circuit would be the best? Wish place give the best package?

Have to be done isn't it?? :D

Many thanks and happy new year!!

Hi Steph,

I did my first track day last October in the RS4 at Bedford Autodrome. I would recommend this as a good place to start because of the big grassy run-off areas and lack of Armco and gravel traps, so if you do go off, hopefully won't do any damage!

I booked mine through www.motorsportvision.co.uk was very well organised with an open pit lane format so you can have as much or as little track time as you are comfortable with!

They also do novice only days at various venues, so may be worth checking one of these out, failing that, they offer tuition at their track days which I found to be invaluable.

I'm going to do another one early this year so might see you there :thumb:

Thanks for the information!! There is one at the end of the month at Snetterton, may be a good track to start and it is £99 , wish is quite cheap. 8)

I'd also recommend Beford Autodrome. Maybe we should have our own rs246 trackday there later this year. I spoke to the guy who manages the trackdays and he said it could be possible to have exclusive use with an open pit lane if we share it with another club i.e. club A in the morning & club B in the afternoon - that should keep the cost down!

One of the fastest straights in the country - I saw 140+mph in the RS6 I was driving (Autoexpress Audi day).

I'd be up for that. Hopefully a day on the track will make me a better driver of me :D

I am very interested in a novice track day now I have the brakes and suspension for it. Can someone perhaps looking into setting up a novice day at Bedford... done a Johnathan Palmer day out there and the run off areas were great.

I've not done a day at Donnington so I'll leave it to those who have to comment. I have done Bedford and can highly recommend it as being safe for beginners.

But as Nige says, the main straight is fast, which is great, but slowing down at the end of it is tough on brakes. I got roughly three laps out of my standard setup before experiencing some fade.

I did my first ever day at Donington, I've also done Bedford which is as the guys say, but its not really my cup of tea as I prefer a track with a bit of scenery - I would agree with Phil and Dave, there is loads of run off at Donington

HI Steph,
Best to have an instructor for your first day. I have saved many a poor Audi from track day virginity. I instructed on one the quattro owners club days at oulton, having had a quatty for 13 years!.
Most drivers make a big mistake about the speed they are going, ie there are no walls or road signs wizzing past to let you know how fast your going. get to the corner... big understeer followed by a grass excursion!

I do instruction 1 to 1. let me know if i can help,,

Seems we have a man to help us out... anyone willing to setup an RS246 novice track day... cones out to help us with braking points, turn in, apex etc etc...

I'd definitely be up for something like this as well. Love the idea of taking the Blue Thunder round a track... don't love the idea of destroying it on it's maiden voyage!

I may be interested also, have never plucked up the courage to take the beast on track fearing immediate tyre wall trauma
