Track day insurance cover
Track day insurance cover
I was reading Evo magazine today and I came across a reader letter that recommended Herts Insurance Consultants (0870 8148814). Apparently they offer unlimited track day cover as an option to standard cover (higher excess applies for track use).
I though it might be of interest to those who are regulars at these events.
Having never been to one (yet), I don't know how their cover would compare to a single day cover from a specialist insurance company.

RE: Track day insurance cover
I got a quote of Greenlight recently (yet to take it up). It was £200 cheaper than my current standard insurance with track day cover. When on track excess goes up to £600 from £300 and there's a £50 fee. Castle Combe is not covered but other UK tracks are. Additionally it's like for like so any mods would be replaced with the modded parts if required.

RE: Track day insurance cover
Specialist cover for two days at Spa last week=£650 for £60K value 996 turbo, usual cost is about £295 per day in UK, so that is good value.

RE: Track day insurance cover
HIC only cover you if the td organiser is registered with the Uk track organisers association.....
Too much is bad.
Plenty is better.

An important point that was (in)conveniently omitted from the article...TarmacTerrorist wrote:HIC only cover you if the td organiser is registered with the Uk track organisers association.....

RE: Re: RE: Track day insurance cover
To do a track day do you HAVE to have insurance? I would think third party required.
Can insurance be bought for just a day?

RE: Re: RE: Track day insurance cover
There is no requirement to have insurance on a track day, nor is there a concept of third party damage. Any damage is down to you regardless of how it was caused. I strongly advise you to take out suitable insurance if you do go on-track.....remember if you bin it then claim off your normal insurance with some made up story your committing insurance fraud.
I have a Greenlight policy on my car which covers track days for a small extra premium as well as full replacement of any modified parts or extras. A lot of track day cover has a large excess plus a limited cover (£1000 excess and 10K maximum pay out for instance). Check the small print as some track day cover excludes engine or transmission damage.

So if somebody kills you whilst out on track (their fault) you have no claim against them?jeffw wrote:There is no requirement to have insurance on a track day, nor is there a concept of third party damage. Any damage is down to you regardless of how it was caused.
A little extreme I know, but you get what I mean...

Nope...none. You sign a disclaimer prior that say you except full liability for anything that happens to you or your vehicle. You might have a case if there was negligence in some way but apart from that your on your own.

Don't let that put you off....just be aware.
RE: Re: RE: Re: RE: Re: RE: Track day insurance cover
I don't really have the spare cash at the moment to run on a track day so it's out of the question for now.
I've been a passenger a few times, which is nice
Something for the future me thinks...

If it helps anyone, I have a NU Prestige policy through Aon, and trackday cover for RS6+ is £100, Clio £75. Both plus IPT and normal excess is doubled for the event.
RE: Re: RE: Re: RE: Re: RE: Track day insurance cover
There are specialists that offer track day cover on a day-by-day basis (MORIS for example). Complete cover to your chosen limit. All you need do is get a Marshall to confirm that you were a complete pr*t on track and stacked your pride and joy into the armco. MORIS also do a sort of NCD scheme. I think you can choose your excess too. http://www.moris.co.uk/
However what you might want to consider is not how good/bad your driving is - but what if some other plonker cuts a corner and piles into the side or rear of your car?
