Anyone going to this?
I've been invited along by my local specialist - might even get to go round the circuit

Yes, I've booked half a day for the RS4 and half for my dad and our old S3. Nice day in that its Audi only. Usually means that you get a pretty clear track most of the time and lots of like minded drivers so few problems over track manners and etiquette etc.

I've always avoided them as I'd heard the opposite. i.e. people who'd never done track days going and out acting the fool for a session.
Have I got it mixed up with anotherday?

Sums up my experience of these days...

Oh dear, we really don't like Autometrix do we?
My experience is limited to Audi International last year, Croft this spring and the VW/Audi day at Combe in July. For me all of them were great fun with no problems/hassle/bad manners or incidents at all. Well oragnised and run. Conscious that I've said this before and I've got no personal axe to grind here but the track is the responsibility of the marshalls and officials at Combe anyway, who are excellent. This is based on much more experience of motorsport generally at CC.

Wasn't there a pretty major incident with a TT at Combe recently?

Not really major. He went into Quarry too fast and side swiped the tyre wall/ barrier. He managed to drive it back to the pits and I guess he'll need some work done on the panels on one side. No involvement with other cars/injuries etc. and the car was still driveable if a little bruised.

Are we saying that no-one here has ever ventured off the black stuff??? Also, I personaly don't think that one car spinning off constitutes a badly managed track day? It would be great to have another RS246.com track day at CC, but even then, the same risks apply wrt track days and 'red mist'.
Just my 2p worth.

I went last year, so did Simon and a number of others off here.
The trackday was well organised and marshalled to be fair but a little expensive at £150 for 6 x 15min sessions IIRC.
We all always plan to stay on the black stuff. I can't say I've always managed it
My experience of the on-track behaviour was a little mixed. Nothing dangerous but some cars not looking in their mirrors and refusing to move over for faster traffic, particularly when it was wet. Annoying but what I'd expect as it was obvious that many of them had little or no previous track driving experience.
I think I'll be there again this year, it was a good day out for anyone with an interest in all things Audi.

I must admit it will be my first time on the track this year at CC. So for you seasoned trackday people have you any tips?

That TT is now fully repaired and looking like new. Cost was only £2.5k

the logistics of organising a trackday are mind boggling, i know as i have organised a few in my time.
I am always glad to do such things but firstly we need to cover ALL costs, and hopefully make a small profit (for RS246 charges/running costs)
So you get me 40 cars all willing to pay £180 in advance each and i will organise it!
BTW we all have been off havent we? (some more spectacularly than others)
Im not having a go here with autometrix, but the do seem to make an aweful lot of money out of the trackdays i have attended and they have as DavidT said not seemed good value.
Cheers

The July Castle Combe trackday was my first ever track day. I will definately be going again (although I can't make the October event). I thoroughly enjoyed it...but my other half hated every minute I was on track.
I admit I left the black stuff once but found the etiquette and standard quite good overall. Having never been to trackdays where there are loads of different types of cars going round I have nothing to make comparisons.
However, seems crazy to pay £ 150 just so you can prove you can get under 7mpg out of a car.
