Post by jag » Wed Jul 20, 2005 8:31 pm

Following on from the success of track/driver training event held at Prodrive on July 19th, i am able offer you guys a Driver Training day @ Prodrive's test facility in Warwickshire. Date is set for Monday 8th August 2005.

(Details Of Who Prodrive Are Here)

8.45 - Arrive for refreshemnts (available through day) and saftey briefing etc.

09.30 - 10.20: split into pairs of 2 customers per instructor and also grouped to spread the cars evenly over the site's facilities. You instructor shall stay with you for the day and will firstly take you both out in one of your cars to show you driving lines, how to balance the cars etc. (demo laps).
Then you will each be coahed on a one:one basis for 25mins to fill up a 50 minute session on the activity.

10.20 - 10.25: Quick break for refreshments etc.

10.25 - 11.15 As per 9.30am but on a different activity.

11.15 - 11.20: Quick break for refreshments etc.

11.20 - 12.10: As per 9.30 but on a different activity.

12.10 - 13.40: Lunch. We head off site to a local pub/restaurant for lunch and re-fuel the cars from the local Shell garage just 200 yards down the road.
(After Lunch, we shall aim to run the same as the morning but with a lot more flexibilty)

13.45 - 14.25: As 09.30 but again, on different activity and running 40min sessions in afternoon

14.25 - 14.30: Quick loo / refreshment break

14.35 - 15.15 As 09.30 but again on different activity.

15.20 - 16.10: As 09.30 but again, on different activity.

16.10-16.30: Option to pix and mix activities as you choose fit. if you want to run some more high speed circuit, or handling circuit, or car control, this time will be allocated for this.

16.30 - 16.45: Refreshments and Debrief and end of what we promise will be a great day out and also, hopefully educational (unless you guys can teach us a few things, in which case, please leave a CV at the front desk and we'll be in touch!)

The afternoon sessions will be very flexible and we shall probably run the afternnon according to how much time you guys want to spend on each activity. e.g. you can if you want, spend less time on car control techniques and fill the time up with an extended session on the high speed circuit.

Facilities we shall use
Tower Circuit
This tarmac, multi surface track is 1.5 miles in length and is a high speed test and development circuit with all features and corners designed to fully test drivers and vehicles. Although a circuit is marked out with white lines it is possible to add or remove features using cones if required

Adverse Handling Circuit
This short tarmac circuit consists of many tight corners with features like adverse cambers, humps and undulations. This can be used for various disciplines which include a small tarmac rally stage (subject to noise restrictions), finesse driving or to replicate driving in urban areas. It can encourage the correct use of down shift and up shift, smooth steering inputs and the ability to look ahead and plan beyond just one corner. It can also demonstrate the importance of straight line braking, acceleration through corners and improve understanding of turn in points, apexes etc.

Low Friction Straights (Skid Pan)
This facility contains a range of surfaces that are wetted by a water spray and cannon system. There is a 6m wide section of basalt tiles with a friction level of Mew=0.15 and a 12m wide section of Bridport pebble with a friction level of Mew=0.35. The other surfaces are concrete and tarmac which can also be wetted. These surfaces recreate conditions such as snow and ice and can demonstrate ABS, traction control systems and their correct use (advantages and disadvantages). They can also be used to show skid creation, control and prevention on any road going vehicle at a relatively low, safe speed without the need for cradles or vehicle modifications. It is one of only two such facilities in the UK.
COSTS
10-24 Cars:
£350 per car and first driver
£175 per additional driver on same car (max 2)

25-30 Cars:
£295 per car and first driver
£150 per additional driver on same car (max 2)

If you dont want to share your car with anyone,
and want the full 50min sessions of each activity to yourself
with personal 1-1 tutition all day: £600.

Non-Driving Guests: £20 Per person

NOTE: (addtional drivers without own car will share YOUR allocated time on track, unless numbers permit otherwise.)

NB. THIS IS NOT A TRACK DAY WHERE YOU DRIVE YOUR CAR SOLO AROUND THE TRACK. YOU WILL ALWAYS BE ACCOMPANIED BY A FULLY QUALIFIED ARDS INSTRUCTOR WHO WILL BE COACHING YOU AROUND THE CIRCUITS.

Maximum number of cars for day will be limited to 30 and no more then 15 cars will be in use at any one time. this allows for a clearer circuit to be taught on and should mean the cars will last til mid day before needing to refuel. Also, tyres, brakes and engines get a breather reducing any potential problems liked warped discs, or blistered tyres. After all, you have to drive these cars home afterwards and the last thing you need is getting pulled over on your way home for illegal tyres! (the local police know what we do at the site, and DO keep an eye out in surrounding areas)

The day so far is booked up with mainly BMW M3 Owners, though we do have a Noble and Murcielago hoping to join the mix!

So if your interested, get your names down in a list below!

PLEASE NOTE:
There are some restrictions regarding noise levels etc.
any heavily modified cars will have to be prepared to short shift, just in case. dramatically excessive noise (e.g. 105db+ @2m / 6k rpm) may not be able to run at all.

Cheers,

Jag.

Jag mate, very kind of you to keep offering like this but continually trying to sell you trackday/training on here after you receive no responses is not going to get you any further forward im afraid. By all means post up the event put please leave it at that, responding to yourself in order to get more attending will start to irritate people.

If you wish to pay for advertising these events in a foraml manner then them I'm sure the admins will accomodate, you can then big them up all you like.

Thanks

Thanks for the comments, i hope you can appreciate that i am arranging these days off my own back, and at present do not have a company set up with which i can (afford to) formally advertise.

I'm merely trying to generate interest and hopefully grow from word of mouth to a stage where a business can be formally set up.

A Website is in the making and once that is up and running, i will gladly contribute financially to help support the site in return for advertising.

I guess im stuck in a catch 22 situation where i want to forwardly promote but cant at present afford to do so through the proper mediums.

Apologies if these threads have offended anyone, please let me know if they do as i will stop posting them. The last thing i want to do is to loose a potential market before i've even begun!

Hell, I say go for it Jag. Looks like a bundle of fun, just not so sure the quattro will drift quite as nicely.

Must say, I'm quite interested.... Is there a thread somewhere to read the feedback?

Oh, and yes we'll happily offer to take your money when we feel necessary

Sorry Phil, but I look upon these threads as blatant advertising. We cant have one rule for one and another for someone else just beacuse admin have an interest in what they are selling, I'm sorry but you have to look at the bigger picture. No disrespect Jag but all you have posted on the forum is about your training days which in turn you would like us to part with money for. Had you conrtibuted something else to the board other than this then it would be completely different matter (in my book anyway) and it's not like you are offering us a totally new product that any of us have ever heard about before. Dont get me wrong, I'm all up for free enterprise just not so much when it's being rammed down my neck.

Will someone please tell me if I am being a completey unreasonable tosser...

Gav, you're a completely unreasonable tosser. Please return to own backside while we sort this

Jag, please answer honestly. Do you personally benefit financially from these events? If not, why do you do it?

Phil, of course i make some dough out of it. but its hardly enough to make a living!

I'll give you guys a bit of background about myself.

I've just graduated this year from a marketing and HRM degree and am in the middle of job hunting. As you can appreciate, us students dont do debt by halves and i need to start paying it back anyway i can.

During my degree i landed a part time job at Prodrive, looking after their track facilities whenever i was there. As a result of spending time there, i've gotten to know a handful of very well respected ARDS instructors etc and saw an oppourtunity to help them, prodrive and myself utilise the days when nothing is happening on site.
So speaking to the Account Manager, i have managed to arrange a deal upon which even low numbers of participants can come along, and all staff (myself, account manager and instructors) are happy to be making something on an otherwise static day.

My ultimate aim is to build a list of clientel with which i can hopefully set up a business and offer more of this accross the UK and expanding to Europe etc. (with the instructors i know, we can easily offer trips to watch races like Le Mans as corporate guests or WTCC etc. right through to corporate events, as well as trackdays and trip to the 'Ring or Spa and so forth.

But before we start asking for £thousands to cover Cannonball Runesque trips, i need to build a stong base of clients (yourselves) as well as prove to track owners that we are not a mickey mouse company trying to haggle a one off deal.

Hopefully 19th July was the start of all the above, but until i feel confiedent that this venture can become a long term success, i'm hoping to rely on the generosity of forums like this to allow me to cheekily advertise, but also join in.

I understand fully where TarmacTerrorist is coming from, and if you want me to withdraw these threads, then i quite happily will. but at present i cannot afford to donate £x amount to every website to give me these privilages of advertising. I promise once i get the project fully underway, i will defnaitely donate financially and also recognise the site formally in future events etc.

p.s. Phil, website is currently under development but i will post up some links of the comments made by one family who attended on July 19th.

p.p.s. we have a skid pan on site which soaks the floor so you can drift all you want down the straight without wearing out the tyres ;) or you could just "bar" it goining into a chicane... :P

I think there is a difference between people coming on here and blatantly just trying to use the space to make some money, and people coming on here to advertise an event that might be of interest to us. But I do think if they are allowed to advertise on here free of charge, then they should advertise this website at the event free of charge.

Neil, there are lots of things that if posted about will have members interested in them. How and where do you draw a line? I agree that in this particular case (driver training, safety and all that) it is something as a group we completey overlook in favour of asking how fast can we go rather than how in control we are and is something we could look to do. Hopefully we would come away from it not only knowing more about the cars capabilites but also our own (very important). The reason I 'piped up' so to speak, is when we start being offered pictures for sale that dont bear any reference to our website. Pics of cars showing us what they are doing on the day fine, do we want to buy them, NO!

Jag, welcome to the real world mate and the subtle differences from what they can teach you in the class to what you will learn on the street (I truly mean that in a nice way btw). Softly, softly, catchy monkey is the way to go. You are fully aware of the fact that you are breaking most web forum basic rules and regs by advertising like this. Rather than approach forums with what you are doing, and do we want to pay to join in?' Why not try asking us as a group if we would like to come along one day to use the facilities at your disposal, costs and dates later and what we want to do up to us. Dangle the carrot, get them talking and your far more likely to get us interested. As you say, you are soley relying on word of mouth and no better place than the forums if it has been a good day (especially with what you are doing as Im sure it will get the arsehole twitching). What Im trying to say is use it, but dont abuse it, and if you look after everyone they will go away with a smile on there face and if they dont come back again theres a good chance one of there mates will (IMHO 30 cars to many at once and 25 to high until you get a reduction considering you only need a minimum of 10).

Apologies for the thread advertising pics for sale. That was a generic post sent to all forums.

As for inviting you all to an exclusive RS246 day, i will quite happily cater for a club only trackday/driver training, but i cannot foot the bill for it.
In regard to dates, i'm advertising days that are available at the site. It is in regualr use for corporate events and testing etc. so i cant offer you all dates for which you choose. I'm trying to be selective of when we can fit around track hire, and hopefully when weather will be suitable. Hence not advertising for December dates as the days are too short to get the most out of it.
To address giving you guys free range on what to do on the day, this simply isnt possible. we have limited time to use all facilities, and activities such as the skid pan can only be used by one car at a time for safety reasons. Your all split into groups in the morning so that you all get an equal amount of time on each activity. The afternoons are far more relaxed and you can pretty much pick and mix what ever you want. Its unfair to have a croweded track or a queue on skid pan, as that way, you just dont get your money's worth.

If the site has some trackside banners, merchandise or other, i will happily put them on display during the events. and on the website when its up and running.

This isnt one way traffic for prosperity guys, you guys help me out, and i will return the favours in anyway i can. It is after all, what makes the world go round ;)
