Rockingham - Sun 3rd August

Post by wazza » Mon Jul 21, 2003 11:56 am

2nd/3rd August - Racing Rivals Live

The third visit to Rockingham by Britain's Premier Open Wheeled Championship and your chance to see the Formula One stars of tomorrow.

Sharing the headlines is the British GT championship. Many of the cars on the grid would have be seen racing at the famous Le Mans 24 hours race in June.

The brand new SEAT Cupra Championship will also be at Rockingham this weekend for rounds 7 and 8 of the 12 round series.

1 - British Formula 3 Championship x 2
2 - British GT Championship
3 - SEAT Cupra Championship x 2
4 - TVR Tuscan Challenge x 2
5 - Dunlop Mini Se7en Challenge
6 - Dunlop Mini Miglia Challenge
7 - BRDC Single Seaters

It is on from 10am - 5pm and if you book before 23rd July, you can buy your tickets for £1 each !

I also believe the Sugababes and Mark&Lard will be performing.
Nell McAndrew and Jason Plato will be filming for the Seat Cupra Championship.

Event information here .

I've just booked 4 tickets. Lets see some more of you there.

Anyone who missed this needs to kick themselves. Fantastic day.
GT Championship – amazing cars – just like playing Gran Turismo on PS2. Ultima GTR, Ferrari 360, TVR Tuscan R, 911 GT2, Morgan, Marcos , Corvette, and also a V6 Clio and a Golf.
F3 – what a noise - I didn’t realise that Nelson Piquet had a son that drives. He’s rather good.
Minis – real close racing - the winner of the 1300cc category has apparently been racing them for 36 years and he is now 62!
Seat Cupra Chamionship – 2 great action packed races – first race had two cars sliding down the outside *concrete* wall braking for the first corner. Another came off at the chicane into the pit exit tyre wall. Oh yes, did I mention that Nell McAndrew was doing the prizegiving?
Best of all though:
TVR Tuscan challenge – 2 amazing races – these guys know how to drive a car! When this race is shown on TV do not miss it. Lee Caroline won the last race by half a car length after passing on the low side of the last banked corner. Amazing.

Also lot of sideshows, a fun fair and the separate stage with all the music. There was a pit walkabout at midday, where you were within inches of all the cars.

Most striking thing of the whole day was the venue itself. If you have never been there, do not pass up the opportunity. Any of the seats in the five grandstand will give you a view of the whole track. It is so impressive.

Only downside was that all the caterers ran out of cold soft drinks by 2pm

p.s. I enquired about track days. More info soon.
