Ha - hardly! Good car control would've been to avoid the spin!

I know why I did it though, I went onto the brakes as I was turning and that brought on the slide, which I over-corrected and hey presto - a dainty pirouette! It's all part of the learning experience. I would've been worried about doing some damage if I was in the RS, but that's the beauty of driving an old hairdresser's car on track; it doesn't really matter what happens to it!

The classic 205 crash! Trailing throttle, or getting off the throttle, you have to be precise with the steering or have luck on your side if the arse becomes mobile. Best option (in a fwd) is to mash the throttle pedal, but this is counter intuitive and you have to teach your brain to do this!

Eddie, loving the SQ5 in the rain! What was your track preparation? Recharge with a pasty and half a tank of diesel?!

Elise gets my vote. I love the things! You will never drive a car with nicer steering. And the view from the drivers seat is surreal with the low dash and windscreen, and the front wheel arches sticking up either side making you feel like you are in a Group C! I've driven faster cars, but the Elise is still the nicest car I've ever driven. I've always wanted to go halves on one with my dad (he had MG sports cars before I was born, and a basic Elise is the modern day equivalent) but I don't have the disposable cash to justify a 205 *and* an Elise!

Cheers for the pm Marc. A tuned 205 is hard to keep up with on track! I started using Pug1off Brackley after meeting a guy with a mental 205 that the looked after, a GTI6 engined beast on throttle bodies with BTCC levels of engineering to the engine - effectively fully balanced (blueprinted?) with upgraded internals, super lightweight valves (hollow / sodium filled) at insane cost. Was 240 bhp at some ridiculous rpm, you could have both the speedo and rev counter off the clocks, sounded like a racecar. Weighing about 850 kg gave it the same power-to-weigh ratio as the 996 GT3s

It's funny, the story behind my TT is that the previous owner took it on track and had his arse handed to him by a 205 - he popped up on the TT forum asking how that was possible, and then began stripping it etc.

I think a big thing in track prep is the brake fluid. Before I had it changed for Castrol Srf racing, whilst ragging around the streets the brakes would fade quite quickly. I hadn't really tried it on normal roads after the change but I can honestly say that even 20 mins around donny the brakes felt absolutely fine. No fade at all. My brother in his BMW 435d x-drive was suffering quite bad though with fade on standard fluid.

I might book the July dates and see what the SQ will do again in the dry. It was fun though even in the wet.

Would love to do this, never been on a track before. Done a couple of drag days.
Do I need to get lots of kit like helmet, suit and ? Or can I just turn up? Also how do I book and what time is it?

If your referring to the Vag tuning day
Helmet hire £10 on the day
Extra drivers / Passenger bands £10
And entry ticket from the website £10

You don't need suit - most say of the time they say bring long sleeve top to cover your arms
