There's a box for the bases of the flags, which is about 50cm square and 20cm high (from memory) and the actual flags/poles go into a long but flat case

Can certainly try, although it may be worth having a contingency plan also (this was with the rear seats folded down too, for Donington):

Was a bit of a squeeze (especially as one of the poles wouldn't collapse properly) but managed it, yes.
If the family do decide to come with me, I'll need to check if I've got a ski hatch (or bring the 6 instead)!

Thanks Phil. Yeah, that's actually what I ended up doing this morning, once I'd got access to my tools. Couple monkey wrenches did the trick!
I also cut away the piece of plastic coating to the pole that seemed to have wrinkled up and caused it to cease up, so should be good to go again.
Turns out that what I thought was a ski hatch, in the S4, is just a first aid kit storage area. Even properly collapsed, it's still too big to fit in the back without folding seat(s) down, but Dunsfold isn't a million miles away from me so hopefully wife/kids won't mind having it perched on their shoulders for the journey there!
