Anyone up for a meet at Santa Pod on Saturday the 20th April as there is a public track day “Run What Ya Brung” (RWYB) event booked? Santa Pod is an excellent venue with plenty of facilities.
For those who are interested in their cars real world performance then this is a good opportunity to do a ¼ mile in safe environment. I’m looking to see if my recent mods have improved things from my stock times.
It would be good to see a few other Audi's up there to drag against. It’s centrally located so if your interested then please post below.
I hope to see a few of you up there
Cheers,
Gav
Venue normally opens at 8.00am with the track open from 9.30am to 5pm. It is recommended you arrive before 9.30 to ensure track-time.
We can only accept a limited number of sign-ons, so arrive early to avoid disappointment! Admission for normal RWYB public track days is £10, plus a one-off signing on fee of £25 for drivers for unlimited runs or £10 for passengers going down the strip.
Please note, track opening times are approximate and may be subject to track and weather conditions. The dragstrip cannot be used in the wet. Don't forget your driving licence!

Well the weather was good today for Santa Pod! It was a good day it was great to meet you Trups and thanks again for taking some pictures and videos!
I've never really 1/4 miled my car properly until today and I must admit I was impressed with the performance as the day went on my times were starting to improve. In all the runs I turned traction control off and tried to keep the revs at 4K as this seemed to work most of the time
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=BetUaEXKy-Q (Run #5 - Best Time OTD - 0.47 Reaction Time - 12.717secs - 109.24mph)
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=LcrHq8bclpQ (Run #6 - 0.21 Reaction Time -12.89sec - 109.64mph)
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=APtdohbqiUk (Run #3 - 0.17 Reaction - 13.45secs - 106.92mph - Poor start - low revs!

Good stuff. Doesn't look like it was that busy - I've been before and even on the coldest of days that entire strip was full of cars waiting (and overheating). I'll have to watch the vids tonight.
Whats the book time on a standard car for 1/4 mile?

Yes I got there early about 8AM but as it was GTI Festival last weekend then I expected (and hoped) it wouldn't be too busy which it wasn't
I think the best time for a run would have been at 9:30AM when the track opens and it's cooler, I ran a couple then and it was around a 10 minute wait to join the queue and back on the strip. Will definitely go up again as it was a bit of fun and an adrenaline rush. In the afternoon it did get a little busier and wait times were around 30 minutes - mainly down to the Bikes and Dragsters taking some time slots. Although when the queue got moving it went quite quickly.
On the stock 1/4 mile times I'm not sure? - had a quick Google but found nothing - I was running 13.5secs (stock) before and my best time was down to 12.7. I still think there's room for a bit more for improvement.
What were your times?

Not in my RS6, but in a 300bhp/300lbs.ft Fiat Coupe it was 13.5 seconds. Traction & launches were the problem and depended massively on technique which, with practice, gets MUCH better. Regularly get to 110 at the line though.
A friend used to organise a RWYB at Brize Norton airfield - whilst there were planes taking off all day I hasten to add. You did a 1/4 mile, then stopped at the end of the runway and had 3 miles to hoon it down. Managed 165 on the speedo once and 160 in the rain

You only had to wait for 5 minutes too.
I haven't run for a while though after seeing too many friends cars blow up or break something.

Yes launches are a key factor to it still I was getting more consistent near the end. RAF Brize Norton sounded like good times - I will need to do a VMAX at some point. RWYB events seem to be quite frequent according to their website maybe next time you could give the RS6 a bash?

Cheers Sonny

- It's quite addictive. Have you done one of these events? If so what were your times?
I need to track it at Bedford at some point this year - but will probably upgrade the brakes before I do this.
