Hi Prawn.

2 things:

1 - Did you get my IM?
2 - I was with Kim yesterday and he didn't seem to know if this event was on or not for sure - can you confirm?

Cheers, Clive

Looks like we only have 10 people :

Prawn
S4Driver
JeffW
DuncS3
bjacks
sitas3
Scotty
Wak
UK225
SimonS3MTM

So not sure if this will happen, I will leave it open until Monday to see if we can get any more.
Will also talk to Kim about a lower number of cars.
Re the graphs, currently the rollers will not plot the boost onto the print out (waiting for MAHA to add this) but you can have intake temp and ignition timing on the plots.

Worth mentioning that Kim runs Haldex cars in 2WD on the rollers.

That will certainly stop SimonS3MTM from attending then. The last time he did that he had to by a new Haldex unit. Not a cheap day out.

Why would Kim do this anyway?

Cheers

Actually I don't think it would stop Simon as he now has the Haldex controller so he can lock it 50/50... which would mean he can run the rollers in 4WD mode.

My *guess* (and it's only a guess because Kim did tell me why recently, and I've forgotten) is that the Haldex shifts the power around so much between ends it's impossible to get a good clean reading - take a look at the spikey graphs that AmD produce for Haldex cars (not a dig at AmD - as I say, it's a product of the Haldex...). Obviously "proper" Quattro cars don't suffer from this with the Torsen being proper "permanent" 4WD.

Kim has obviously run a *lot* of cars like this (including mine in a couple of weeks) for both power verificaiton runs and mapping. I'm confused as to how the mechanical action here could have created a fault in an electronic unit - was it verified 100% that this caused Simon's failure... (Simon, if you're reading this, can you drop me an I with a way of getting hold of you btw ;) ).

Cheers, Clive

I know that Haldex can make the car sqirm around a bit and possibly cause some funny spikes but IIRC Simon pulled the fuse to disable the Haldex, the guys ran it on the rollers and brought the car back full of smoke and with a knackered Haldex Unit.
I'm sure Kim knows what he's doing, and you're right, Simon does have a controller now so should be Ok, but it's the first time I've heard of a big tuner running Haldex cars in 2WD.

Cheers

If I can get an early a.m. slot I'd like to attend - as long as you guys don't mind a S Line A4 quattro interloper( sold the S3 earlier this year) :D
PS It's only 190 bhp - at the present time

I am afraid I will have to pull out if my car has to run in 2wd mode. I did'nt see any issues with Interpro or AMD running haldex cars in 4wd mode and the figures seem pretty much as expected.
IIRC DeanS3 also had to have a new haldex pretty soon after running his 3 with the fuse pulled in 2wd mode on a RR (bit like Simon did) - theres no proof it was the RR and it may just be concidence but its enough to put me off.

I understand Ottenger RR haldex cars with the fuse pulled and probably MTM in Germany (?) do as well, so its not unheard off - but its not worth the risk for me. If it still goes ahead I'll probs pop down for the social side of things though..

The more the merrier. Especially if the Haldex guys are pulling out. Oops.

well Dunc I think you're doing the right thing - G-Force wanted me to pull the Haldex fuse when we all last went there for the RR day due to my old S3 bouncing around on the rollers and after hearing the 2 failed Haldex stories I refused.

Is it not down to the way the car is tied down?
