It shouldn't be (that) competitive...a smooth lap is much better than a quick one on the ragged edge.

Donington do 3 sessions which they term (novice, intermediate, expert). In practice it means people get divided according to speed + ability, so newcomers to track don't feel intimidated. (20mins in each hour to each session).

The track at donington is lovely and wide, was resurfaced at the beginning of 2004 I think, and certainly last time I was on it (nov 2004), it was very grippy.

There's no overtaking on corners, which minimizes the risk of collisions...and all passing is done on the left...

You can get track day cover from the likes of competition car insurance
(http://www.competition-car-insurance.co.uk/)...which is not expensive - and you just buy as much value of cover as you think you might need...to give peace of mind.

It'll be a great day out...do it!

Or if you're still worried just book in for the dinner, a passenger lap in the new RS4, and watch/take photos + get passenger laps in other members cars :)

As cpufreak says, the day is basically pick and choose..... I'm hoping it will be an open pit day, so we can get on/off the track when we want. The good news is that with so many of us, it'll be a relatively safe day to try out your track legs :)

I'd love to see and hear some other RS4s. Are Americans driving on Irish plates invited too? Is a helmet required for the track portion?

Since I'd need to catch the ferry back home on Sunday night I'll have to pass on dinner. Unfortunately Irish Ferries are having labor problems and are not operating right now so I can't book until I know that the boats are indeed running.
