I went to the AS-N rolling road meet at Well Lane, Batley the other day. They had no trouble with the S3's. They used the towing eyes front and rear to clamp the cars down a little, problem solved. It may be worth asking G-Force what they have to fix the cars down if you have disappointed S3 owners Phil ?

Re power losses, Well Lane measured this (as other do) by allowing the car to free wheel after the first power run. The RR then calculates the losses and reports flywheel figures.

I went to the last rs246 G-Force one and the guy was giving me flywheel figures by multiplying the wheel figures up with a calculator, based on losses they knew from a Skyline.

Do they have the facility to calculate transmission losses automatically now Phil ?

well mine didn't at the last G-force outing. by their own admission, mine was the first haldex based car they had come across and it was accepted they didn't know how to properly tie the car down. They really need a haldex based car for a couple of hours to 'Learn' how to tie the things down properly - wasn't PaulS3 supposed to be offering to do this a while ago???

My car didn't bump around as much at the Well Lane session and they had experience with TT's (ie other haldex cars)before.

OK here's the scoop....

S3 are scheduled for the end of the day, as they haven't managed to sort the Haldex issue. Personally I would discourage S3s from going on the rollers as I would hate for someone to pay £50 and not get any figures. (Not sure if the S3s got charged last time?)

Tim's and Chris' RS4s will be stock on the first run, so we can hopefully calculate a rough power loss from flywheel to the wheels. I agree that the traditional method of dropping the clutch at the end of the power run seems like a good idea.

I will check on the above points.

Right ive had alook at the RR movie clip ive got on my pc and the S3 on the rollers doe not budge once! smooth and has no problems either....... they tied the car down it a few positions..... ive took some snap shot of the clip to show the location of the tie`s (poor pics)

So far i can see they have used the rear towing hook and tied it from one side of the car to the other, then they have used somewhere underneath the back of the front tyres to hook onto and maybe also used the front towing hook! Sita's and my money were returned.... , i didnt even try my car on the rollers... we didnt have the time to fiddle to get a decent graph.

if i was in a better position, i would have gone to G-force before.. and helped get round this issue, but as it stands i cant, as things have come up.

its all down to the strapping down apparently.

Just had another look at thar clip..... the S3 is tuned...... and i also think they max it out on the rollers at around 175mph (not 100% sure)
Around 377Nm and 292bhp

Normally rolling road session conducted in most direct gear (4th on most cars, on my car ratio is 1:1.03 in 4th) so could be 175 km/h in the S3? Red line in my S2 in 4th gear is around 126 mph @ ~7400 rpm (202 km/h).

Good strapping point behind the front wheel is around the subframe if fitted or onto a decent place on/near the wishbone.

Might be damgerous but then again the car has no momentum as it is not moving. Each strap has breaking strain of several tons so shouldn't really be an issue.

Mine has never gone above 120ish mph on the rollers as the operators drop the clutch at around 7200 rpm (redline not rev limit).

Could they have used a higher gear due to traction issues. In higher gear torque at road wheels is reduced.

With only 292 bhp it wouldn't do 175 mph on the road!

thats what i thought.......... doesnt matter all i know is that it doesnt wobble or show any sign of coming off the rollers so their tie-down method had let them do a very good RR with a S3(heldex)
