I have never had track day insurance, and have never seen any major incidents. Donington is a wide and very forgiving track. I would suggest that you don't need it.

Re: Forget Croft on the 21st - Donington !!!!!
technically a track day is not racing, a time trial or a rally.....so if your policy doesn't specifically exclude it they can't.
read your policy carefully, if you can't be arsed fax it to me 01924 896700, need the book and certificate.

Re: Forget Croft on the 21st - Donington !!!!!
Have been having words with my insurers about this for ages. (NFU Mutual - normally brilliant BTW) and I have today been given access to the underwriting notes so I quote :
++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++
"A standard car certificate excludes use for hiring, commercial travelling, racing, speed testing or for any purpose in connection with the motor trade. A track day is when a racing circuit is hired so members of the public can drive round the circuit. It appears the cost of hiring Brands Hatch in 2001 was about £9,000. Hence the organisers would need 90 cars at £100 each to cover hire of the circuit and with other costs they would need considerably morethan 90 cars. The cars are started well apart but with a wide range of driver and car speeds there will be overtaking, adrenaline flow and circumstances when humans can easily make errors. Particularly if family or friends are timing laps.
The reinsurance position is that any element of racing, time trials or similar is excluded.
Such track use is excluded from the cover under a standard NFU Mutual car policy.
The organisers will usually sell cover for track use. In 2001 a premium of about £300 with an excess of £1000 was indicated for a normal road car and a mature driver. In this instance an incident happened costing about £9,000. Repairs took a long time to authorise and there was no offer of an alternative car while repairs were being authorised or repairs carried out. Such track use is not a type of specialist insurance NFU Mutual offers. Our car policy will cover the drive to the circuit and round the complex eg when going to lunch. Our cover will cease when the racing / speed testing begins. Our cover will start again after the racing / speed testing has finished."
++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++
So unless I trash it on the way to lunch, thats me fecked

Re: Forget Croft on the 21st - Donington !!!!!
Just to add to Phils comments which I agree with BTW, While I have seen some incidents, I have never seen an S or RS Audi come to any harm. If in doubt leave traction control systems on. They will save you

Re: Forget Croft on the 21st - Donington !!!!!
well i had it out with an underwriter a while back, and he went to his boss, and so on and so forth.....and although they didn't like admitting it they agreed because there is an age old insurance principal in the uk which states...
"any vagueness, or unclear point, is given in the favour of the policyholder"
Which means unless they specifically exlude something it is covered. I haven't come across a policy yet which specifically excludes track use. they do exclude racing but we aren't racing.
