Thanks John. RS246 will continue to evolve in the same way it has done for the past 6 years.

As much as it pains me, I'd rather refrain from doing my laundry in public. You guys pick the side/story/etc that you feel most comfortable with.

David and Mark have put a lot of effort into trying to make this event happen, so it's warming to see so many of you making a gesture to them for the investment they put in.

Well its a sad day for everyone involved, quite frankly this became part of the reason and the catalyst for the demise of the crew.
We were all like squabbling children and no one thing was agreable to anyone at anytime, this split the crew.
I personally made it quite clear from the outset that it was a big task to pull off and couldnt see the point if we were going to lose money, but i was their to be proved wrong.
I looked at the figures a few weeks ago and said to David are we going to reach the required amount, he said that it wasnt going to be a problem and said "we need another 20 or so people just to break even, and he had 3-4 people who were just about to pay up.. the long and the short of it by the time the event was on us he could get the numbers required.
It then came to light that the deadline for Brunters deposit was fast approaching, i got this from Phil via MarkB

Hi John,

Below is a list of some of the ‘outstanding’ items and attached a list of the people who paid.

Quick facts:

- Brunters has not been paid a dime

- The cheques have been banked, but it seems that refunds are relatively easy

- Key sour taste could be those who booked the hotel (Non-refundable). They could go to Mallory (Autometrix), or I/we could have a word with the Marriott

- Some of the costs are higher than originally scoped, so more attendees are needed

There is a chance for this still to go ahead, but we need to be aware that this is not an easy ride (As we know all too well). I suggest we make a yes/no decision today.

Speak later,

Phil.

-------------------------------------------------------------------

*Sprint* we plan to run a time by the clock sprint event

Who mans this to time & record? To get enough throughput and to ease the start line we hope to have 2 start lanes. One lining up the other ready to go.

Where to time from? Points on the circuit need to be chosen (best do on visit day)

*VMAX* we'll have a speed trap towards the end of the main straight.

Who captures & records speeds?

*Drag Strip*

¼ mile timing, 2 cars run side by side.

*Timing gear* we’ll be bringing hired timing gear

Who will man?

Displays for public? No but could we borrow some white boards?

How is the time/speed captured & recorded?

How do we measure the distance? wheel

*Photography / Video*

We'll have someone videoing the event and will also have photographers.

*Other Attractions*

Vulcan: Will it be flying on this day? it is possible according to David Walton, TBC. OK but we need to make space for it to go & come back if so

Are there more museum or other facilities we can get to add value to the day?

Project satanschild: Drag car, not likely to run but hope for it to be still in attendance.

Motorcycle stunt display ? Is this still going to happen?

Ice Cream Van?

Family attractions? We need to book some still

Max cars you are ok to run with?

Can we get access on the Friday for setting up?

Tickets - For cars - stickers. For individual events - vouchers

Wristbands - driver, passenger, briefings, hot rides - Bruntingthorpe

to do?

Car numbers - written on back screens? Big white pens?

How do we run the sprint/VMAX together? (performance boxes)

Autotest setup where?

Acceleration timing - Run AM with Sprint/VMAX and PM with Track session/qtr mile & autotest?

Track session: paced first part, then open pit lane or sessioned ?

Parade laps at lunchtime

Use Bruntingthorpe catering facilities?

Walkie talkies - Use Bruntingthorpe ones?

Parade Laps - Where will they go?

Exact timetable for the day

*Payments*

We’ve been given a price of ***************

I can do a deposit of *************

This will leave us ************ (+ anything else we hire)

Bruntingthorpe balance - when?

We’ll visit on the 26th April to speak to Pat Jackson. (David, enter your words here to ask to have a go)

Quite a short fall im sure you agree and the other BIG problem who was going to man the day?

The next bombshell came when DavidT posted in the crew section that he was not able to carry on as part of the crew....

A decision had to be made based on the fact given.
Both Phil and myself made the decision to abandon RS246 Live as not to "jepordise" the payments we had recieved as the deposit was not refundable.
You will all recieve your payments back in full and if you still feel like donating £10 each just use the donate section.
Hope this clears the whole matter up, and lets hope we can organise something else on a smaller scale soon.

Cheers
jr

John, regardless of anything else, you've got to take the Bruntingthorpe prices off there. They did us a fantastic price & it should not be posted in public. The were also super helpful.

I'd just like to say a big thanks to all of you who tried to get RS246Live! to happen.
I hope the crew (past and present) will be able to sort out their differences as you all have a common passion for S/RS cars.

After all, this is why we're all here!

Cants see why David its common knowledge that Brunters did us a great deal, i also think its only right that everyone who paid had the reasons why it was cancelled, i couldnt really achieve that without posting the facts and figures

And this is how Mark & I get treated after all that work. You don't even state how much money we had collected either.

I prepared the above list with Mark, it is a subset of what we were sorting out for the event.

People can draw their own conclusions about how the crew members have been treated & why I had to get out. I just want to put it behind me, it has upset me greatly & I don't want to comment further.

treated you or Mark badly ?
The reasons why i have not posted the amount that was collected because it was never given to me
So even i dont really know that David.
The crew members had no bad treatment david, it was the mere fact that none of us saw eye to eye about anything, there was alway constant bickering in the background and quite frankly mate Phil and myself were sick of it...
David you have always been a fair and considerate man, and a very pasionate man regarding RS246 we all commend your efforts. Please dont look upon this as a personal attack.. its not
You did everything you could, but when faced with your decision to leave the crew we were forced to cancel the event.
Cheers

Thanks for the kind words of support.

I'm upset with the way things have turned out. David & I were full on to make the event work, even after he left the crew. I still don't know why I have been dumped from the crew.

Yes we had things to sort, but what event wouldn't in the last few weeks before it's date? Many of the questions above we had answers for, we were managing them with Bruntingthorpe, so a little out of context above. There are plenty more on the full list of things to do :) This was all going to be addressed on a visit on the 26th. We had plenty of people who had offered help, both financial and on the day. You know who you are :)

Money, yes we were still short but we were confident that it would come good before the event. Something David and I were willing to shoulder as Phil & John made it clear that no RS246 money would be made available to address any shortfall.

Yes I was worried and after the events last week very worried. I'm now releaved but unhappy it's come to an end.

Even though my my crew status has been removed I'm left with the task of closing down the event and returning all the payments. Thanks for the kind offers of a small payment but I will be returning the payments in full.
Mark

Firstly a big thank you to Mark & David for all of the efforts that you have put into making RS246 Live almost happen.....I salute you for your dedication.
It does raise, yet again, the reality that this site is owned and run by individuals (Phil & John) and not by the community at large. We are at the mercy of these individuals (this is not a criticism rather an observation) as to what can or cannot happen in the name of RS246.com. No user of this web site has a say in anything that happens on here except Phil & John. It raises a number of interesting points...

1. If this site was a commercial venture the owners would need to be sensitive to the thoughts of their customers and accommodate their suggestions and would need to innovate to maintain the customer base with events like RS246 Live. Of course they would have to take the financial risk with events of this type but they would also profit if they where financially viable. In the nature of sites like this that are commercial they need to keep their users happy so that the advertisers are seeing the click through that is need to make it viable to support. Scoobynet is a good example of this type of website.
2. If this was a club there would be a committee and constitution and every paid up member would have the right to vote in a AGM for the committee. The committee would need to account for the funds it has and, potential, could use those funds to support events like RS246 Live.

The site as it is today is neither of these things. Maybe it is time that it decides what it wants to be when it grows up ?
