Audi Driver - Castle Combe

Post by SimonS4MTM » Fri Jul 11, 2003 1:36 pm

Hi All

Has anyone heard about the Audi Driver - Castle Combe event.

I picked up a flyer from an Audi dealer yesterday that explains it all.

It is a two day event taking place on 11th and 12th October.

I will try to scan the flyer and post in here somewhere.

It says that clubs are welcome to have displays, are there any plans for RS246.

It's quiet close to the RS Drivers' Challenge at Hockenheim.
(14th+15th) Not very good compared with Audi Germany.
Not many RS cars (from RS246.com) will be there!

I was just going to post a thread about Audi Driver international... maybe not now - What are your thoughts Mr Roberts and why the negativity? (As a newcomer and new employee of Audi Driver...) Fill me in!

My 2p. The track organisation was the crappiest I have ever experienced (which after 50 odd track days says quite a lot). Last time we went we spent all day lining up and the whole process of doing that was about as ham fisted as it got.

I think the main reason was that they were selling day tickets on the day which made a complete moockery of pre booking the bloody thing.

The trade stands can be ok (AmD/Milltek always look good, as did QS) but it always comes accross as an auto jumble. Car club area is too small too and you end up bounced to the outer carparks which are pants.

Only good thing about CC is the great viewing areas. JR, myself, Bushy et al all agreed we wouldn't another one unless they paid us.

Hmmm... ok! Well, not having been on a regular AutoMetrix track day i cannot comment unfortunately. All I can say is this...

The regular track days are for both VW and Audi, the main thrux being VW drivers. This year the boss has decided to create an Audi only event which is dedicated to the Audi enthusiast. There are a fairly limited number of track places compared to the regular track days and we can assure there will be no pesky GTI's to get in your way!!!!

However - this event is not JUST a track day. There is great trade support already with many of the big names in attendance plus there is a show and shine, concours, technical seminars, dinner on Saturday evening - with bods from Audi coming to speak (including Perry McCarthy!) and there is the bonus of great Hotel accommodation too. its a great package!

On behalf of AutoMetrix we are sorry you have had bad experienced at the previous track days and hope you can muster up and support this new event...

Agree this is a different event than the last one but experience counts for a lot and I'm sure they learnt the lesson enough not to repeat it.

I personally can't make it due to other commitments anyway but I'd consider going if I didn't I just doubt I'd track my car for the reasons cited above.

dr_splian,

Have to agree with Thorney's comments, and add that there was that idiot in the diesel Golf overtaking on corners etc. Sorry, but I aint gonna risk £50k of my money with that kind of disrespect for the other people on the track.

Let's see if you can get it right this year and I may consider it for next year.

Say "Hi" to Paul for me.

Shame really because i know that you could (with some help) actually have a successful trackday, but if you insist on it being a "free for all" and just taking as much money as you can on the day, it will allways remain a shambles.
Realistic numbers on the track and limited attendees for the trackday will ensure that everyone who pays up will get value for money, and end up going home without incedent.
I will watch carefully your attempts this year.
Cheers
