Not good news, spoke with my insurers today about something else and whilst double checking the Ring was okay, they now tell me they will not cover the Ring, after originally telling me it was okay. So arguing aside, if that is their policy then I cant change that, but without insurance I'm not going to take my quattro around the Ring :(

So its looking 99% like I'm out....

Unfortunate but a wise decision. I wonder if anyone is insured given the reluctance from all the insurers I've approached!
M3 CSL - Silver Grey, a few options.

The ring is not a track and you don't have to approach it like a trackday guys.

While you guys are preparing don't forget about european breakdown cover, euro number plates or a GB sign, spare bulbs and headlamp dipping etc.

Sounds obvious but from experience if you are forming any convoys make sure you all have your mobile numbers and agree a route before hand - otherwise it can we wacky races as different sat navs make different choices.

Absolutley. Glad you mentioned that. Can't recommend them highly enough for travelling in convoy.

Worth buying a pair of units just for the trip IMO if you haven't any. One in each car makes communication so much easier. Nothing like a well synchronised pee stop!

Can't beat a bit of banter while storming the autobahn either :D

Yep, we are due to arrive in Dunkerque at 13:00 local time and there is roughly 30 minutes driving time between them

Having been to the Ring before, I personally felt it was like a track but I think I know where you are coming from. I would hope that my driving itself wont be a problem, as I dont plan to drive outside my limits, but there are more risks due to the level of people who will be driving at the same time as you. Its a matter of weighing up the risks and I'm not sure if its wise not to be insured for me.

Exactly. It looks like I will be going without comprehensive insurance now as well.

I plan to be there for opening on Sunday, then again late on Sunday and Monday afternoon. i.e. when it should be quiet. I'll do my laps then go elsewhere when it gets busy or I don't like it.

The days of cheap, insured fun are gone, but most people who drive there, stay a day or two to soak up the atmosphere and do zero laps (who can do that ? but they do!!!) say it was a great petrolheads trip.

I only did a few laps when I went, I chose a quiet time and stopped when I had had my fun. There is so much going on, but you will always be able to get a few laps in depending on your confidence. Take it easy if you want, stay right (it is a road) but try not to get overtaken by the bus (no I didn't)! You can otherwise easily soak up a day or two, walking the car parks, taking it all in, car watching and talking to others. You have to get at least one lap in to be able to warrant THE sticker on the back of your car.

Take a look here for a few of my memories. I went with a few pals from an MB forum (car at the time) and we also had a maniac in the form of one of the guys fathers in his track 300ZX twin turbo. yes they were they only ones that crashed!
