Fuel filter change done

Post by neckarsulm » Tue Sep 04, 2012 7:07 am

It's odd that fuel filters never make it onto the official service schedule of petrol VW Group cars but in the same vein that long life servicing isn't good for the RS4, ignoring this probably isn't good either especially when they can corrode and leak.

It's not as hard as I imagined on a ramp.

There is a good guide on Audi World forum http://www.audiworld.com/tech/eng.html but in addition to that I would suggest having as little fuel in the tank as possible, make sure you get the four washers/seals (2 different sizes) and remove the old ones off the pipes (they aren't immediately obvious), have a 22mm spanner at hand at this is used to hold the filter while the banjo bolts are tightened and loosened otherwise you may strain the fuel pipes/hoses as they will be tight, make sure the pipes are routed correctly once the filter is back in place.

With regards to removing the 4 bolts holding the 2 tank straps on, I did wonder if the tank may fall out especially as it was full but it doesn't. Just be very careful putting them back in as one of mine didn't want to line up (front right) so took a few attempts to avoid cross threading.

I was amazed how much black fuel was coming out so glad I did it although mine wasn't rusty even though it looked original.

I had the fuel filter changed in my B7 when I had some work done at MRC.

If anyone wants a B7 RS4 walk-through search for in in ArthurPE's post history.

I got mine done at 48k. Cheap as chips for peace of mind.
