How long to drive with EPC light on?

Post by rjkflyer » Mon Sep 26, 2011 8:46 am

A friend has a B5 RS4 in Switzerland, and his EPC light has come on. Car drives fine and he's keen to await me to go out in 3 weeks with my VCDS to take a look at what's wrong.

I'm hoping it's an intermittent coil pack sort of thing (like I had with my B7) which turned out to be nothing in fact once reset. As i say drives fine, normal temps etc. He's not taking it above 4k mindful that obviously something is not 100% right.

However, not knowing the B5 as well, what do you guys think re driving it about for 3 weeks? Main concern is are we cooking the cat(s).

Thanks

Hmm, is this forum now dead?

Anywhere I should try more likely to respond, if anyone's reading this...?

Thx

Most people would post a VCDS scan to better understand the potential problem.

What does it say in the owner's handbook?

Coil pack failure would appear as a misfire with no light as I recall....

VCDS is as stated the best course of action.
