Hey every1, ive just got a few questions for all you b5 rs4 owners! Currently i own a c5 rs6 and apart from the car being a total animal they are actually <beep> cars with the owners allways worrying about whats going to go wrong next...
Plus dont make me atart with the stupid fuckin gearbox which is so fragile...
Now ive also got an s3 and when i drive that it feels bullet proof just like a car should you also feel safe driving it!
Now my question is i drove a friends b5 rs4 and it felt really good just how i get from the s3, would you lot say this car is much more solid with less <beep> ups waiting to happen!

Mate,
I have owned my B5 RS4 for 13 months now and in that time I have had the following issues:
1) Buckled wheels, cos they are the soft ones and they tend to do this, I had them "hammered straight".
2) Replaced all 4 tyres....not the cars fault really
3) Replaced the front brakes with KSport 8 pot calipers and disk to match (was the cars fault, major wheel wobble under braking plus crap feel). Now the car stops on a sixpence.
4) Multiple warning lights that seem to come and go, the latest of which is the Engine warning light has come on again at the moment, I dont what the issue is yet....
5) Further brake issues where ABS appears to cutting in at low speeds, this is a current issue and after lots of research and help from a chap on here we reckon its a broken Reluctor Ring affect the ABS, I need to check this weekend.
6) Replace the rear calipers as they both were knackered
7) my motor is due a cam belt change on a few thousand miles, another £450 !!!

I had had to replace the RNS-D stereo as that was crap too, not the cars fault really as I knew what was getting into
9) Its also been serviced, which is fair enough
10) There have been other issues as well, just niggles, but it all adds up........
The above has cost me a pretty penny. I am not saying all B5's are like this, its just my experience which has been a ahem "mixed one"!
You may ask, why do I keep it then? Well the short answer is, its f**king brilliant, the handling and power just ticks every box for me, plus the comfort, I find the whole package hard to beat especially when you take into account its a practical car too, I can take multiple passengers with loadsa luggage and 3 bikes on the roof at 150+mph (I dont do this all the time!

). Not many estates can match the RS4. I get 320 miles on a full tank of fuel too if I am careful! What a motor, I aint selling!!

A sorted b5 rs4 is the ultimate car.
It is 11 years old now so it has to be looked after. You are into wear and tear parts on any rs4 now. The biggie is worn cams. If they are good just look after it.

Absolutely!!! I forgot to say, I took my mate out in it who is a "hardened passenger" in performance cars, however when I took him out in it and there were screams of "BRAKE!!!!!", "BRAKE!!!!" and multiple grabbing the door handle moments......!. He he he.....
By the way, what are the symptoms with the worn cams? Heavy ticking noise? What miles do they tend to wear? Why is this a "biggie"?

I stated above that I had two current issues with my B5, Brakes and Engine Warning light....well the engine warning light has now gone out of its own accord.....one down one to go......

No real issues withb the car to be honest. I had my cams checked and one replaced. Other than that it's only been upgrades or preventative maintenance...
Brilliant cars.

all we have needed was a replacement clutch and flywheel @ 130k miles or so.
replaced front brakes with RS6 ones because I wanted to and not because they needed it
cam belt job done @ Unit 20
ABS was juddering at slow speeds- rear abs rings knackered so replaced and all is fine:)
great car so keeping it.... ours has an easy life so not been exposed to some of the horror stories
