Electric window problem

Post by gtwibell » Mon Oct 04, 2010 11:58 pm

Wonder if anyone can shed any light on an enduring electric window problem?

It started with lowering the O/S/R window from the driver's switch. The window went all the way down OK but wouldn't go back up. After a draughty drive home I had to remove the door card and window motor before I could manually raise the glass and make the car secure and dry.

I took the motor apart (as far as is possible) and found the brushes etc. OK, and tried it again after reassembling. But either installed or hanging free on the cable, all it does is click when the switch (either driver's or passenger's) is moved.

I tried a second hand motor, again hanging free, and it turned briefly but then stopped. That too has now reverted to the same clicking state as the original.

There seems to be a solid (and permanent) 12 volts at the motor connector but I haven't a clue what the other six wires are for. Presumably logic signals for up/down, all the way up/down etc. The glass didn't appear hard to move in the channel once the motor was removed.

Many thanks - GeoffT.

check wiring loom from B pillar to door as it sounds like a wire break

To close the loop on this, it turned out to be a combination of bust window motor and a corroded connector inside the rubber bellows that enclose the wires from the pillar into the door.
