I think the standard responses here are "it's too expensive" "there's another for sale for 10p" etc. And then if that doesn't drive values down enough then a few horror stories about camshafts and gearboxes should do the trick.

Unfortunately, the reality is that if you are selling your RS4 then your price competes with other RS4's, whose owners are constantly being told by other RS4 owners that their car is not worth very much. The fact that there are only a few hundred of us means that these people's misguided opinions carry far too much weight.

These cars should sell for much more than they do and the only reason to sell for less isn't because the potential buyer will buy an M3 or AMG instead, it's because some other RS4 owner has been convinced to devalue his car by a fellow RS4 owner.

When will the madness end!?

Couldn't agree more!

That plus some people 'need' to sell quickly so will take an offer for less than it's 'value', thereby convincing others the lower value is in fact the true value, which is as we all know utter cr4p!!

Simon, not sure where that rant came from buddy. Are you saying my pal is selling his RS4 too cheap? If so, what price should it be?

Stunning post Simonc, stunning as in it seems you and a few others actually believe the utter dribble,You seriously believe people who have sold there cars have sold them at less than what theyre worth? What do you think these people have consulted myself and other recent sellers prior to placing and pricing there cars? Are you for real? Misguided opinions? Opinions are held by people who havent actually experienced selling,Facts and real world experience comes from people who have sold,Oh yes i forgot people who have actually sold there cars recently have all sold them too cheap!!!!!! What planet are you on? Do you think someone is blocking bids on ebay or telephone calls to all these buyers? Should they have taken that better offer?? Instead of selling too cheaply to add weight to your cloud cuckoo land theory?? I will gladly enter into a factual thread on ACTUAL selling prices over say the last 12 months to back up any comment i have made. You are seriously deluded if you believe what you have written,Gregorfuk s4driver and r5cpk have all sold recently all of which were TOO CHEAP according to people on here, well i hope they pop up and share there REAL experience, you wonder why the likes of myself respond to posts like this when such unsubstanciated rubbish is written?

Im not sure were that rant came from either as nobody had made any comments whatsoever,But its a classic example of excactly what goes on here on this forum, heaven forbid your mate sells it or reduces it,that would add to the theory anyone who sells is actually underselling and turning down that much better offer to back this theory.Lets take personal opinions away from all of this and create an actuall list of cars bought and sold mileage spec mods etc over the last 12months, FACTS not current owners/enthusiasts opinions,i will gladly contribute to back up any of my comments,I am realistic and speak from experience not opinion, isnt it strange how other people who have sold share the same view?

I do too as im a massive fan of the b5 and as a long term owner of one stick my head in quite often,I just get sick of threads like this were current owners kid sellers or imply its worth more as the OP just did,i know what lower mileage examples have recently sold for and this thread could of encouraged him to "believe" his car is worth more and him then go forth and waste his time and money advertising it before coming back down to earth when the phone doesnt ring, now thats not helpfull at all or good advice, ultimately until you actually secure a sale every valuation or opinion is just that, ringing all the cars up for sale and seeing which has sold is a very good barometer

No matter what peoples opinions on here are mate, sad fact is that a car is only worth what a buyer is prepared to pay for it :?

The market is close to dead at the moment, particularly if you are selling in the northern half of the country.

I had zero response when I had my 3 owner 96k Black RS4 with excellent history up at £16.5k.

I still had zero response when I dropped the price to £14.5k.

In my experience, the non-owner/ impartial buyer's perceived value of a good example of these cars is around £12k (which is still twice the value of the equivalent S4). To sell at a higher price requires the attention of an individual who is passionate and committed to buying a B5 RS4 over anything else - this is a very limited market, and getting more so as petrol prices are manipulated ever higher.

I have to say i agree with much of this.I recently sold my RS,but as you say the guy who bought mine was a motivated buyer who only wanted an RS......also down south (which seems to make a difference??) I just think that at say £15-£20k buyers have a LOT of choice out there with other marques so guess you are looking for buyers who actually only want an RS ans as said that is a relatively small target to hit.

We have ourselves to blame.... every other post is someone pacing the boards with cam worries or turbo worries which finishes with someone saying your looking at a 3k bill.....
