Is it worth it...?

Post by Imax » Mon Mar 29, 2010 5:29 pm

Hi,

Having now had my RS4 for a while i'm now tempted to do the following...

1. MRC Custom remap
2. B7 front brake upgrade
3. Short shifter

The question is... Is this worth doing? Will it make a difference that I will notice and enjoy everytime I take my car for a quick weekend blast?

Thanks

It also depends how much you have to spend.... once you start you just can't stop and you need to be ready for some of the potential costly maintenance bills too ;-)

I'm sure we could all do with a big win to help cover our costs... I think the brakes are a must as they will struggle to pass the MOT so seems like a good time to upgrade and do the other things at the same time.

Taking into account this work and a major service due in July I think this will be an expensive year... and I want to do some other changes as well!!! once you start you just can't stop...

Yes and Yes and don't know (not sure about SS)....

Brakes - here you go get these just what you're looking for and good value....

The discs look to have plenty of life in them but the beauty of buying this set up is that when worn you can replace the B7 RS4 discs with VW phaeton items (by swapping over the bells) which, at about £280 a set, are much cheaper than RS4 B7 (or B5 for that matter) discs, but just as good.

Definitely agree with the above, but definitely agree with all the others on carrying out the mods!

Short shifter makes a big difference, but combined with a DTS and weighted gearknob - takes all the slop out of the standard gearchange.

..and definately do the other two.

1. Absolutely yes, performance and fuel economy gains are worth every penny
2. Most definitely, combine that with the HEL SS braided lines and you've future proof'd the car for any further tinkering.
3. In progress myself, can't comment yet.

The £650 for the MRC remap is the best money you can spend in my books. It totally transforms the car and also highlights any issues you might have as they do a health check (VAG-COM and Pressure Test). I would almost guarantee 1/4 the people driving these fine machines will be running with a boost leak and not know it.

Agree the with the re-map. Uprated Arb's and MRC bracket transform the handling.
