RS4.org to close

Post by johneroberts » Thu Jan 16, 2003 6:24 pm

Yes its true RS4.org will be taken off the internet very soon....
It was the best Audi site on the net especially if you were a RS4.
We hope to import the information to rs246, so watch this space for more info.

Lets see what we can do to preserve the memories, and create new ones. Many thanks to DaveH, Phil, and the members for making it what it happen.

That is sad, cant we see it 'transferred' rather than simply close?

I'm quite happy to make the material from the rs4.org forum available to rs246.org. And the 1400 pictures uploaded.

Who has the technical knowledge to know how to import 2500 topics, 15000 replies to these forums?

The reasons for closing RS4 are the following
1. Having hosted it since September 2000 its time for some new ideas and operators. And Updates!
2. Its been hosted on my own company's internet line since September 2000, and this line is increasingly needed for other business.
3. It does generate a huge amount of hack attacks, "hoovering" of all html by international surfers, and emails containing viruses. All of this is naturally extremely unwelcome on my company's network. It has delivered at times upwards of 4GB of data daily.

so there you are. I'm quite grateful that others are going to take up the banner for the future. Don't forget that the site really belongs to DaveH - who wrote it from 1999. Its only been hosted by me. Since Dave sold his RS4 he's naturally had less interest in the site.

cheers
Phil

ps I'll be back!

You know guys, although I never had a RS4 (missed the boat ) I have always been a keen reader of RS4.org and picked up many good tips.

I now have a RS6 and would like to welcome everyone here, but I too will be sad to see RS4.org go. It would be nice to see the two sites merge and the result here grow..

Thanks Guys!
What I had in mind is access to all the info that was posted on the rs4.org site. Also, maybe the old contributors could be sent a reminder about the change. Any chance of getting a copy of all the postings on a CD (naturally at my cost) sent to me Phil?
