Has anyone fitted a R8 wheel onto a B5 RS4. Looking for any advise before I start playing with the leatherman and flash light. I'm only interested in hooking up the airbags and horn at the moment.

FYI, in the event of an accident, the dual stage airbag from the later Audis will not deploy when fitted to the single stage airbag controller from the earlier cars.

Style over safety, I like that! At least you'll look good with your face planted into a Lamborghini sterring wheel anyway.

Are you positive about that?

Quite a few people believe it will fire.

Anyone offering to be a crash test dummy ?
I like the look of the newer B7 / square bottom wheel but having driven one it's not a patch on the MKIV R32 wheel for comfort IMHO. - Added bonus of the single phase airbag connector on the MKIV air bag as well!

Not overly keen on the chav-tastic die-cast plastic bit on the B7 RS4 wheels. The RS6 C6 ones are the mutts nutts, as long as your prepared to sell your first born to fund it. Anyone got any piics of the MKIV R32 wheel?

Interesting read, the question now is what's the safest/recommended way to have a FB wheel installed.
1. Does the B7 RS4 airbag control unit work in a B5 RS4
2. Is there a single stage airbag compatible with a FB wheel

yeh exactly the reason why I haven't done this yet

I know everyone keeps on banging on about how they've got it sussed, and no airbag light, but that doesn't mean sh1t!

As mentioned, if you want style over safety, then thats fine!

That tiresmoke thread speaks for itself... it's a mugs game....
Worryingly a friend of a my brother-in-law bought Ollies old Noggy blue B5 (not from ollie I might add), and this has a B7 wheel fitted - he had no idea of the lurking problem until I pointed this out to him.

As regards the airbag failing to fire I can't really see the problem- airbags are a fairly new phenomena and in my experience if you're travelling along in a big old 4x4 with you brain in neutral and surrounded by airbags its like a gold pass to the driving like a dick competition final. If there was a spike protruding from the middle of the wheel I predict people would be paying more attention to what they're doing.
If, as Virdee says its style over function, carry on and get it done- the only problem may be when you come to sell it or those forum members who's partners regularly get behind the wheel. Neither affects me, the only accident I've had was a barrel roll up the A3 in a Corrado 16V which didn't have airbags anyway.
The only frontal impact I remember happening on this forum was the guy that hit a deer 18 months or so ago.
Anyone else frontalled an RS4.
Real world issue or storm in a teacup?
I'd be more concerned if it increased the risk of accidental deployment TBH.

Regards
Steve.

Still digging around to finding a solution to fitting the wheel. Interesting article on tyresmoke. http://www.tyresmoke.net/forum/audi-a4- ... b7-b6.html
