Insurance up for renewal in a few days, so went to the usual Noel Dazley. They couldn't get me a quote immediately (and still haven't) so I thought I would do the old compare the mearkat and confused etc. As I've been paying around the £540 mark since I got the car.
I'm a bit shocked to get quotes around the £300 mark with the lowest being Admiral who have quoted a mere £243. That's declaring the Remap, Exhaust and Brake upgrade. Not many quoted, but I'm a bit shocked and "confused" as to why these appear so cheap compared to what I've been paying previously!!
EDIT: The car was coming up intially on all websites as a S4 Avant quattro using my Reg no, so I had to manually change it to RS4!

This matches my own experience.
I was shopping around as Admiral originally tried to hike the cost of the policy at renewal time (as usual), so did a ring around. The only specialist who was originally close was Adrian Flux, then it became apparent when I phoned they hadn't quoted for mods listed on the quote and more than doubled the charge.
In the end I checked what I would be paying as a new customer with Admiral, phoned them up and got the price down to £380 - that's similar mods, clean history, and parked on the street in SW London. The main thing is that mods aren't covered like for like, although they do offer it as an extra it's very limited cover that's not worth it .

For London, that's really cheap! However, what do you mean that mods are not covered like for like?

The reason a lot of policies seem cheaper is that compulsory excesses have shot up. Always check the compulsory excess on top of any voluntary excess you add.

Those quotes are £350 excess including compulsory - so not that bad I think!

Replacement with standard parts only, however I'd imagine there is room to argue considering there is very little difference in respect of some prices - e.g. replacing B5 compared to B7 brakes for instance. The cover is only up to about £1k IIRC which is why I didn't see the point.
When I told one specialist that I expected under £400 from Admiral, the guy couldn't put the phone down fast enough.
You did answer something I had been wondering - how much I would have saved if I still lived in Scotland..£243 is a damn good price.

Your right Graeme, it is a damn good price. My ur quattro on classic insurance with limited mileage is within a tenner of this price.
I'm also out in the sticks a bit, so good postcode to have for insurance.

Well, this gets even more crazy.
Admiral phone me last night and said if I put my other car (B5 A4 2.5tdi) on a Multi car policy I would get further discount. So it's now costing me £215 for the Insurance on the RS4. But wait for it, on the same Multi policy, the cheapest they can do the Diesel is £230 (still slightly cheaper than my current). How fecking nuts is that!!?!?!?
So, with Admiral, it's cheaper to Insure your modded RS4 than it is your Tdi!

It's all based on stats Norrs and the number of claims assosciated with this model As you can imagine there are only circa 450 cars in the UK and that means little in the way of claims so RS4's are cheap to insure. I paid 700 last year and got it down to under 400 this year so things have dropped alot. There are many more S4's and Diesels out there so their premiums will naturally be higher. Another reason to love this car

Even the simplest insurance claims escalate out of all proportion once hire cars, assessors, transportation, etc are factored in. In the case of the RS4, I would be declining the whole "we'll take your car away and bring it back repaired" service and expect many others would too, thus reducing any repair bill to just parts and labour. I also expect many RS4's avoid commuting or supermarket car parks and will cover below average mileages.
I recently heard of a car that was dented in a carpark and was written off because the value of the car (£1500) wasn't worth the insurance company even bothering with the repair process, they didn't even assess the damage.

That's a good explanation, and the only one that explains it really! So, some "common sense"?? from the Insurance Industry?
So, my urq should be about 50p then?

Yes, I declined all the other Hire Car stuff, but your right, I wouldn't want to pay for a service I'm not comfortable with in the first place. I stated a 10k mileage.
Still rediculously cheap - I'm well pleased!

Been checking for my renewal and cheapest so far is £368 with £370 excess (I dont pay vol excess as found makes little difference) or £400 with £100 excess at Admiral non standard wheels declared and parked on street in bad postcode Scotland. Thats full bhuna courtesy car protected no claims legal protection etc etc
Bout £15 month cheaper than last year

Diesel, fuel of the devil!
