Hi,

I habve seen a few people have fitted the flat bottom steering wheels off from the B7 and new shape TT S etc. I fnacy doing this myself. I understand the horn and air bags are fairly easy to wire in but does any one know if the standard B5 sat nav plus readio can be wired into the multi function steering wheel controls (mainly just volume that I would like to work).

For sake of clairification my B5 does not have a Multi funstion steering wheels as standard (not sure if any did?) but if they did does anyone know if the standard loom going to the steering wheel includes these multi function controls for the radio.

Or in the alternative does anyone know if the standard sat nav plus unit can support auxillary controls for volume etc?

Not seen anyone with the MFSW from the TT etc. which controls the Symphony HU from the B5 and not sure it even has remote control.

I believe it's possible to use a MFSW from an earlier model A4 but that seems pointless as the wheel will look dull as.

Best bet is to source an RNS-E and then add the TT RS wheel.

I bought a R32 flat bottom steering wheel from a Mk 5 Golf - supposedly a straight swap. Unfortunately not as easy as it sounded so I sold it on again (for a small profit ).

Think you need either the Mk4 R32 wheel or the Audi ones. RS4 wheels are VERY expensive. TTS etc are slightly cheaper. It's the airbag that costs the money...

Yeah stumpy its the mk4 r32 one,thats fits straight on and better than the mk5 ,when my girlfriend had hers,i would say its defo the nicest steering wheel i have used,really nice and chunky,better than the rs4 b5 and nicer than the fbmfsw she now has in the a3

Agree with the above.

If I hadn't done mine in carbon, I would defo have a '32 wheel on mine. Miss it from my old R32!

Saw Doug's Mk4 one today. Very nice, and yes nicer than the Mk5 one...

Just out of interest why wont the Mk5 r32 fit when the R32 Mk does? Is it to do with two stage air bags on MK5?

Anyway back to my original question re the multifuction buttons on the steering wheel and the ability of the Navigation plus unit on my B5RS4 to support this function. I remember nkow that my Audi S8 had what appeared to be the same sat nav/ tv/ radio system and IIRC that had a Multi function steering wheel. So basically can anyone answer for certain if the B5 Navigation plus head unit can support a multi function steering wheel? It appears to be the same as the one on the S8 / A8 which I know can, but the unit fitted may be different.

It probably will fit (the Mk 5) but you'll have to suss out the wiring for the airbag...

airbag wiring is explained here. I was looking at a mk5 wheel just because they seem to be cheaper than the mk4 one But given what people have said I guess I'm back to looking for the mk4 wheel.

Btw i think the above info should work for a mk6 golf wheel and I don't think either of them have a 2 stage airbag (although I'm not 100% sure about the mk6)

If anyone knows where I could get a cheap mk4 wheel please let me know

As far as the mfsw goes it should work with the rns-d which was installed in the rs4 you just need the wiring the controller and to add the coding in vagcom. It may be possible to rewire the buttons in a newer wheel to work with the older controller but your likely to need a pair of steering wheels and lots of messing around (as stated earlier if you are prepared to do this a rns-e is prob better)

The Golf MK 6 wheel in that link does look really good IMO
much better then the MK5 one. Just got to get me one of those on ebay with Multi function control buttons and start plaing with the wiring!
