B5 RS4 cam follower/hydraulic tappet paint markings

Post by mad-for-tar » Tue Dec 29, 2009 3:17 pm

Does anyone know where I'll find the paint marks on the cam followers/hydraulic tappets?? Just in the middle of doing a complete camshaft replacement on both heads and can't see the marks on the followers!? Normally should be marked with "single BLUE" or "double RED"

Only see the following p/n's on the underside of them (well, the last bits of the p/n):

058 109 309E on the exhaust ones
058 109 309F on the inlet ones.

Have a full set of 034Motorsport ones which I don't really need to fit but will do if they're the right ones.

Any help appreciated in where to look for the marks!

Thanks! :)

Hi, I never did to be honest, thought I would with all the talk of camshaft failures and tappets etc. Fortunantely enough I didnt need them, caught the cams just in time and there was no damage to the tappets.

So as a result, the cars running still but I have a complete set of 034 Motorsport lifters which I havent got round to flogging yet... :(

HTH Tom.

Apparently they should be coloured but I can't see any colour on mine.
Found a thread which stated part number denoted colour:
Intake follower
058 109 309L Single blue
058 109 309N Double red

Exhaust follower
058 109 309M Single blue
058 109 309P Double red

This is a bit confusing as my followers are marked 309E!!

Yes mine were marked exactly the same!! 309E on the exhaust ones so thats what got me posting this thread. The 034Motorsport ones I have are the same /replacement for the 309L and 309M Intake/Exhaust tappets. Glad someone else has found the same to be honest as I was starting to think my engine was a bastardized build or something! :?
