I know this sounds stupid, but a few times recently when i have put my car in reverse to pull it out of the garage,i have heard a beepin sound as if i have reversing sensors.
Is there anything else this could be or have i finally lost the plot

Yep.... you've lost it mate!

you sure it's only when you engage reverse? As mine beeped every couple of minutes when my alarm siren packed up

Its probably only done it 3 times in the last 6 months, but it's when ive got in the car and am just reversing out i get about 3 beeps, maybe it is something connected to the alarm then.

Just a coincidence, that when your "reversing" it does this.

But defo the alarm siren.

Park your car the other way round, and see if it does it in the morning, FORWARD!

It'll be the alarm module, VAG COM it and it'll say
01134 - Alarm Horn (H12) 77-00 - Internal Supply Voltage

Sometimes they fix themselves but usually it's the first sign of the batteries leaking and imminent doom.
Tip for RS4 owners, check that your alarm actually sounds!
New unit is round £90 from audi + fitting

Mine does the same, but only when left for a week or so in the garage. It has done this for around 18 months....

As said around £90, and piss easy to change

Just open the panel in the boot area on the RHS, and its mounted on the floor, with a 10mm nut. And one connector.

The bracket has to be drilled out, as the new siren uses a 13mm nut to hold it.

Some people have split it open (not easy though), and just replaced the battery, which is apparently the same as the batteries used in remote fobs, i.e CR2032/2025, etc

Thanks for all the advice, was expecting a right ribbing

Like i say its happened about 3 times and the other day when it did it,i had not used it for atleast a couple of weeks.so what Dave said sounds spot on,maybe just when the battery is slightly low on power.

Won't do anything unless it gets worse

It's pretty straightforward to replace the battery, done it a few times now on various cars. Best do it sooner than later though, as a leaking battery will eventually corrode the circuit board.
