I simply want an aux input....oh and cheap on my RNS-D

Post by SpeedJunky » Sat Dec 12, 2009 12:52 pm

Hi Guys,
I expect delivery of my RS4 B5 next week. This is my first Audi and I am trying to do my research but please forgive me if I have made any mistakes here.....

It appears to me from the pictures of my car to be that is has a RNS-D installed, so no MP3!?

I have plenty of mass storage devices that can store MP3, but it seems to me the most ideal device I would want to plug in to my RS4 is my Samsung i8910 touch screen phone, simply because its touch screen, lots of memory for tunes and the screen is big which is ideal for being on the move.

Anyways, to me it seems the simplest solution would be to mount the phone in the car and connect the headphone socket to the RNS-D somehow. Firstly, can someone tell me if this is possible out of the box, based on the stuff I have read so far I am guessing not? If what I am proposing is not going to work out the box, then whats the easiest way to give my RNS-D a headphone style audio input from my phone?

I have looked at the dension stuff, but some of that is over £150 for something that sounds so simple. Any better ideas?

Many Thanks.

As far as I know there is no way mini jack aux input for your ipod, phone or other external av device.

You could always but a cheap RF transmitter device, plug it into your phone then tune your radio into the device and listen to it via that. I use one of those old tape converter which plugs into my phone and play through the head unit, the quality is fine. I've also got a phatnoise box and that is the way to go, i'd do that if I were you.

Thanks guys...

I have spotted a RF Transmitter for £15 in Maplin. Its compact, charges off your cig lighter socket, connects to a headphone socket and provides power to a USB device like my phone which sounds ideal...

Fingers crossed....

If you have the TV-tuner, then you should have some audio/video inputs behind it.

Otherwise, you'll have to install a multimedia interface in place of the 6cds changer.

Cheers

Hi, Why not change the CD changer for phatbox. It can hold up to 10000 tracks. I did this and best way forward.

How much for a Phatbox?

Is it possible to see track names, artist names etc?

Contigo's right...Phatbox is the way mate. I paid £75.00 for a branny in the box. Ebay! These Rf plug in jobbies can be a bit nasty in the sound reproduction.

I have a Phatbox going spare, it came with a car but didn't have the docking station so can't change what's on it.
Will sell the drive or buy the dock Contigo..?

Hi Mate, that's a really decent offer from you, what I need now to ascertain is if the main unit of the Phatnoise is duff too. I whacked the cartridge in the docking station once it had dried out and it's definitely knackered but I have let the main unit dry out and will try a mate's cartridge in it and then let you know. Is that ok bud? I might just need the drive/cartridge from you but then I might need the whole lot! What size cart is it?
