Agreed, this can cause real bad consumpstion. Won't always show up on VAG-COM either! My S2 was only getting 150 miles on a tank when the MAF was shot, and that was taking it easy!

how long you had the car?

if you have just aquired it, i would change the maf, dv's to 710n's spark plugs and that would leave put lamda last to change.

vacuum leaks. Check/replace all vacuum hoses, if not already done.

This sounds strange. I can't visualise what you're meaning here. Could you maybe post us a pic?

Sounds like the Thermostat or sender unit. I'd change the sender unit first - otherwise it's a £700 bill for a new thermostat :(

Are you talking about the coolant or oil temp gauge? Good to know before starting to replace things.

i have replaced the coolant temp sender unit already,
neither the water or oil get very warm unless ur giving it beans the oil is what id expect prob 70 if just cruising the water runs very cool, most of my other cars have warmed up to bout 90deg and stayed there unless in traffic or getting death, the rs moves just off the min on the water temp guage. today i did about 14 miles and it didnt really move

it looks like a jammed open thermosat but why 700 quid!!!!??
